my recently played is very satisfying right now

- AM2R (4 stars)
- Metroid Zero Mission (3.5 stars)
- Metroid Fusion (4.5 stars)
- Super Metroid (5 stars)
- Metroid II: Return of Samus (4.5 stars)

There's a nice symmetry to it thanks to AM2R's cover art being based on Metroid II's, and with the blue Fusion Suit Samus being in the middle between her normal suits

zero mission replay complete. i have officially beaten every nintendo-developed 2D metroid game fast enough to get samus to take her helmet off but not fast or thorough enough for her to take the rest of her armor off, back to back to back to back to back

some small but nonetheless significant UI tasks have been checked off the slarpg v2.0 to do list

UI

• There's now a prompt to confirm your action before loading, overwriting, or deleting a save file.
• Deleting a save file no longer plays a loud default RPG Maker sound.
• Enemy health bars should now always display at least 1 pixel of health until they actually hit 0 HP.
• The Star Power meter has been altered so that it can now correctly display 5% increments rather than misleadingly rounding to the nearest 10%, for the rare instances where this is necessary.

i feel bad for the dozens of designers at insomniac who surely tried to tell their higher ups that no, their completely linear action game does not need a glowing trail constantly telling the player where to go (including leading you to side challenges and collectibles), only to be overruled

one of many funny things about xenoblade 2 is how blatantly obvious it is which characters were designed by nomura. they're modeled in a completely different, more KH-esque art style from the main characters. it's making me hyper-aware that nomura designs anime characters with actual noses

i can't get over how bad the class-altering costume swaps look in revelation. like in many other FF games these would look fine, good even, but they don't fit the aesthetic of ff7 at all so it just makes it feel like the party is randomly cosplaying

some tiny cosmetic changes i can actually screenshot, because why not: the amber woods fire lookout tower is now visible in the distance from the peak of the hiking trail, and the 8-bit room now has matching monster and door sprites rather than using normal ones
