I feel morals, tradition, religions, etc exist because philosophy and critical thinking are complicated. Peer pressure is quicker and easier. And often, unfortunately, damaging in different ways. So we fight it, overcome, overcompensate, then rediscover how feral we still are.

I would be aghast that it took so you long to see the obvious, but same here. When you are taught from infancy that some questions are not to be asked, it becomes a matter of personal morality, and that is a great weapon against critical thought.

What I mean is, as far as things people can be irritated about, things that stop conversations and such, it's a bit sad, sure, but to me it seems like an obvious side effect of bumper sticker philosophy. The larger issue is that memes have become the endgame instead of the ammo. We are shallow.

I feel your pain. And agree. I know what I am about, to quote the great Ron Swanson's writing team. If they want to know they will ask. They rarely do. I will say there is something about the bluntness of the term "atheist" that I do appreciate. Like "punk". Inadequate, but pithy.

Oh, I was using the term "thesis" humorously. As in, I had to go on a long time about what I believe, don't believe and why when people ask about my faith, which people used to do relatively often when I was younger. No one seems to care much, now. Bigger fish, I imagine.

I don’t think the US is actually a safe enough environment to bring any world scriptures into public schools. It would be nice if intro to world religions could be taught, but there are too many literalists of all kinds, including atheists. complex poems that the culture treats like manuals
