Sure, let's design a flag for Hermeticism, why not. I've been chewing on this for a while, but I'm satisfied with the design in the end. Also I have this new flagpole mounted on my house (replacing one that snapped off several years ago in a strong windstorm) that I should eventually use somehow.

A horizontal 3:5 flag that is a horizontal tricolor, the top third being white, the middle third being a deep sky blue, the bottom third being black, with the middle third having seven golden stars arranged horizontally.

I have never uttered this phrase nor has food poisoning been a thing for me (and may it never!) since I practice good food hygiene! Fresh and safe food production is a non-negotiable for me; you might end up confused and distorted, but you will never get sick from my kitchen. :p

Hm hm. Given that five spice powder has some things in common with the usual autumnal spice blends used elsewhere and that this is a common Peking duck preparation ingredient, I think an argument could be made for that, along with it being rich and abundant enough for the season!

The worship of the gods is a necessary prerequisite for Hermetic mysticism, not just for its own sake (how else do we cultivate a right relationship with the powers that be in the world who give rise to our lives?), but to lift ourselves up to their level and beyond, as is our divine birthright.

The whole mystic insight of Hermeticism, however, does not rest solely with the gods, but with the Godhead. Think of it like a sort of spiritual extracurricular: for those who needed something more than the usual offerings and festivals, the cool priests had their niches for doing something extra.

None of this should be surprising, since the Hermetic texts arose in an explicitly and expectedly polytheistic context, the temple culture and environments of Hellenistic Egypt filled with priests to the many gods or those taught by them—written by polytheistic authors for a polytheistic audience.

This isn't henotheism, megatheism, kathenotheism, &c.; all those are fundamentally polytheistic but often used in modern theological discussions as constructions to lead from polytheism to monotheism as its foregone conclusion and evolution. Hermeticism doesn't do that and doesn't work like that!

In Hermeticism, the Godhead is *not a god*, but is treated like one for the sake of using the techniques and frameworks of religious devotion to reach such a Oneness. We develop such techniques and frameworks by the worship of the gods, who are already down here with us (to one degree or another).

"Monism" in a Hermetic context is the notion that all things that exist have their origin in a single Source, the Godhead beyond/behind/under the gods. The gods are the ultimate entities to exist, but the Godhead is beyond existence itself.

All "polytheism" means is "a belief in the existance of more than one god". The Hermetic texts explicitly talk about such gods in the plural with different roles, stations, natures, and the like, and they also don't just expect us to worship them, but they outright encourage us to do so.

Hermeticism is a form of mysticism that is polytheist as well as monist. Those two labels deal with different fields, the former being a theological belief and the latter a philosophical stance. The notion of Oneness as the Godhead does not diminish the divinity of the gods.

Just in case, I put loose PVC pipes up for extra structural support for the skhakh, but otherwise, lights are up, table and chairs are in, and I tied the loose front ends of the tarps to the poles with some extra rope so that they're taut. I daresay it's ready, at least—and a learning experience!

I admit, I have concerns about structural integrity for the week, but the sukkah is assembled. I'm hoping that, as all the skhakh dries out over the week, it'll get bit lighter. Also, turns out American burnweed smells rather pleasant. I'll get the lights, table, chairs, and other stuff in later.

Sukkah update: it's still standing, though it's a little lopsided now that it's setled after some rain; I ordered more PVC pipes/fittings and a cutter tool to reinforce the structure for next year. Later today I'll go down the rural roads with a machete to get some tall grass for the skhakh.
