Israeli media superb on potential deaths of its own citizens. Not so good on actual deaths caused by its own citizens... #auspol
Post on X by David Crowe:

Watching this air emergency story unfold I can tell you the Israeli media has been outstanding.

The Times of Israel, the Jerusalem Post, Channel 12, other outlets.

All of them rapidly reporting each new development.

Chris Bowen being patronising, first worldsplaining, and speaking for Vanuatu's Ralph Regenvanu @rregenvanu.bsky.social youtu.be/DfKLi8ttPm0
The Pacific countries have been somewhat critical of Australia for not doing enough on climate issues and critical, for example, of our high level of export of fossil fuels. What's your response to that criticism?
So Michelle, well, let's be clear. I mean, when you say Pacific leaders, Pacific countries, one minister has said that in recent times. That's Ralph Regenvanu, the minister for Vanuatu.
So I think we should be careful about generalizing or sweeping statements. Ralph is a very passionate minister. I like him and work with him and respect him.
This is not a new view that he has put. He's put that view consistently over many years. I caught up with Ralph last week.
I don't think he'd mind me saying, he said to me, one, I'm deeply admiring of what you and your government are doing, domestically and internationally. I'm fully supportive of your agenda. I think it's great what you're doing at COP.
I think the work you're doing on decarbonisation domestically is excellent. He then said, it's my role in the Pacific, I think, to push you to do even better. And I understand that and I respect that. And that is a role that I respect. And I said to Ralph, well, Ralph, if you want to transition away from fossil fuels, we have to get the renewables built because you can't just take the negative side of the equation and say, well, it's all about fossil fuel production, unless you're building the renewables as quickly as you can to replace them. And that's our agenda domestically and internationally, which again, I don't think he will remind me saying he understood.
So again, I'm not saying that he doesn't hold those views, he does.
But I think it's important to put it in context.

Van Jackson provides a great explanation of the fascism that is occurring in America, but can equally apply to Australia too. At the 24 minute and 10 second mark, but watch the whole episode featuring @boganintel.bsky.social as well. #auspol
What is fascism? It's a state-led counterrevolution on behalf of capital. What is counterrevolution? It's a reactionary far-right overthrow of the norms and the institutions and the practices that make up our social order. And it's a small section of capitalists that are benefiting from it. And it's the rest of us who are just suffering what we must. Everyone is pissed and scared and insecure because they're experiencing a shrinking wage share of national income. And that is by definition what happens in an asset economy. If home values and stocks and investment portfolios are where all of society's wealth concentrates, the working class has to sell their labour for a wage in order to survive by definition. The overall economy is in crisis for everyone whose wealth does not come in the form of assets. And there is no reason to think that deporting immigrants would improve that situation. But if you're an ethno-nationalist, if you're a reactionary, you live by this idea that the purge is going to restore working class wealth. That's part of the theory of the case of like hate-based racial politics, but it's nonsense. Like, you've been duped. If you believe that, you didn't know who your actual enemy was, and so you fell for oligarch propaganda. Rich old mostly white dudes pissing on you and then telling you it was the immigrants. Come on, man.

Victoria, Australia 1856 #auspol #treaty #genocide
Who knew?
Some colonists saw clearly what was happening on the frontier. Edward Wilson, editor of the Argus newspaper lamented in an editorial in 1856:
In less than twenty years we have nearly swept them [First Peoples] off the face of the earth. We have shot them down like dogs. In the guise of friendship we have issued corrosive sublimate in their damper and consigned whole tribes to the agonies of an excruciating death. We have made them drunkards, and infected them with diseases which have rotted the bones of their adults, and made such few children as are born amongst them a sorrow and a torture from the very instant of their birth. We have made them outcasts on their own land, and are rapidly consigning them to entire annihilation.
