just to build on this - as a person, in all things, your actions are more important than your words. if you say you are pro-union and then the OC at your company knocks on your door and you vote no, or worse, campaign against your union, you are in fact anti-union.

There's no real way to do it "right," because underneath these (often self-contradictory) objections is fear. Fear of the boss, fear of their coworkers, fear of democracy, fear of being seen as a coward, fear of losing the privileges they already have.

The funny thing about the current moment is that the minority who are anti-union are often afraid of admitting it, so they'll come up with excuses or rationalizations, often focusing on how organizers are doing it "wrong" while making no effort to help or understand why its being done that way.

It's hard to overstate just how harmful this is, how much that fear, inertia and self-doubt creeps into every aspect of a person's life, and poisons relationships. You aren't just hurting the union effort by doing this, you are hurting every worker at that company.

There are so many examples here of management, or people close to them, sowing fear, uncertainty and doubt. It's classic union-busting, but also tragic because you're teaching people to doubt themselves and their own capacity to take initiative, make collective decisions, and build a better world.

The mass layoffs hitting the industry are as much about disciplining workers as they are about cutting costs. The bosses want us scared, desperate, and afraid to ask for more. If we don't speak up, they will learn that this tactic works, and they'll keep doing it! That's why we need to fight back!
