2006- Sam vomits uncontrollably when he realizes he must suggest Pluto is demoted to a dwarf planet. Al tells him to pull the revolver from his mouth because Neil Degrass Tyson goes on to do other great things like... host Cosmos?

My two favs are “League of Their Own” (the movie) and “The Wrestler”. League is really about the changes that happened to Americans at home during WWII. Wrestler is really a character study of a guy well-past his prime grasping at his thinning chances of being important.

This is an insidious comment because it’s asking a simple question and not against social media rules if you don’t have context. The context is that the poster knows the answers: Because Jews are vulnerable. Because Jews are different. And ultimately because Jews just exist.

What tipped me off is a type of Jewish racism I see a lot on Tw*tter from Neo-N*zis: Someone will post “Jews are persecuted in every country except Israel.” The N*zi will respond, “I wonder why that is 🤔” I’ve now seen that on Bluesky from Left/Liberal accounts.

I leave social media platforms, then come back later to see if things have changed. Nope, Bluesky still racist AF. See y’all in 12 months

often that so-called waste is more like this:
meme of a sandstorm as a dog, sweeping onto a city

dog sandstorm: “New manager who's never been trained on how to manage”

the city: “Decent workplace”

The AJC shooting was justifiable in people's minds because they could fairly easily imagine two low level Israeli government workers were actually agents of Mossad, but doing the same to people's 80 year old grandmothers burning to death requires a lot more work.

Boba Fett is best as this weird pulp figure with a background that is borderline indefinable. Just a dude who is SOMEWHERE in the galaxy at any given time, and as soon as he's called to collect you, it's over.

I hear a lot of "protest is free speech" — thing is, destroying someone else's expression is NOT covered by the 1st Amendment. It's the ANTITHESIS of free speech. Protest all you want, but the minute you block others from speaking, you've become the aggressor and violated the 1st Amendment.

The Theft aspect might make more sense if you worked with artists. AI can give you what you ask for, but artists give you their interpretation, their voice, and their point of view. That’s something AI can’t replicate

You've been told good reasons: it's unethical (theft), it's wasteful (environmentally harmful)... But the best reason is it's ugly. It looks bad. If your writing is honest (and not AI, itself) you're representing it poorly by using an unappealing illustration.

Question for non-Jews: Is Jewish pain, grief, anger, frustration always valid in your eyes? Or is it conditional/situational? Because I've seen way too many people (WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER) make it the latter. And that's a problem.

What Trump is doing to straight-up illegal. if they're going to break laws, then no amount of civil protections are enough. I'm talking about people who use anonymity to spread terror, not those who protest. That's two vastly different sets of people.

The sunglasses point is a good one. The combination of hat, sunglasses, and mask is the real hood comparison. I guess there’s no reason to dwell on my question if nobody else sees the issue that I do. Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I do. I think speech holds less weight when it’s anonymous. Take for example why I use my real name and picture on this site. I think Elon is a Nazi and Trump is a rotting shit-bag, and I’m happy to stand behind those opinions.

I’m talking about the KKK’s use of anonymity to commit violent acts and intimidation. In a “perfect world” where honest protest isn’t prosecuted, can you see how disguising identity could be problematic. But if you don’t think there’s a middle-ground, that’s fine, I won’t belabor the point

On one hand total anonymity frees people to be their worst selves (take the KKK for example). I can see that the law might be overreach in some situations, which is why I was asking for her opinions on a possible middle-ground

Right, but in combination—hat, sunglasses, mask—a person is even harder to identify. And if a person feels totally anonymous, they could feel license to be their worst selves (as we’ve all seen on social media)

Columbia’s solution was wearing your student ID if you wore a mask, something the medical college had been doing for a while. I know that’s not the same as the city of NY ofc

Seth Nesenholtz @poisonedgift.bsky.social · 27/03/2025
I know, as someone harmed by COVID, you take masking very seriously. In protest circles (of every sude), it’s widely encouraged to mask to prevent identification. Can you think of a good alternative that would allow safety but not purposely disguise identity?
