I'm convinced that the market of Canadian podcasts FOR Canadian audiences is stuck in a place where their shows simply cant get "big enough" to monetize. The ad industry seems to still be focused on shows hitting 10k+ downloads a month, but our pop. just isnt big enough to hit that on a large scale

Great tips - also, do not underestimate the importance of your recording space. A $50 mic will sound great in a treated room, but a $500 mic will sound pretty bad in a harsh, bare wall room.

Lastly: Learn how your microphone works, play with it, and practice mic technique. I've noticed that Academics, in particular, have a tendency to really let their voice trail off. Why? Idk! Try changing the closeness of your mic, adjusting gain, and listening back to the dynamics of your voice.
