When boards recommend this sort of talk about being “AI ready” for students, I laugh because it seems like if avg person can make crappy memes & flyers with it, how hard must it be to pound your fist on a keyboard & replicate? Seems to me actual art fundamentals & critical thinking is the separator

Here to say I’m impressed with the deep cuts “Let’s Elope” ‘s racing winning jockey reference. It’s only bored into my skull because AUS schools use to drag out a TV in class once a year to make kids watch a horse race. My 8yo brain must have be confused by an author riding a horse in a race.

1 of only a couple of rare notes I’ve gotten from via KFS was I had “Bengali” in a sequel story for Frew, where it was named as such in original comic strip, and set before the name change in daily strip cannon, but was told to change to “Bangalla”, regardless of continuity.

Words for students: in this bullshit era of "A.i.," your degree means nothing. Going to Yale or Dartmouth or whatever means nothing. The only thing that matters is what you actually LEARN, what you actually DO, whether you actually do the WORK. Nothing you do with "A.i." will help you in any way.

A student in class today said that my art was good and I should consider making comics, and told me how I could do that. Earlier, a person in bathroom stall loudly watched multiple episodes of some influencer on the street nonsense. These events aren’t related, it’s just part of the fabric of today

Part of my job is teaching life drawing. I don’t always feel like the people in the room are keen to learn, but it’s at least problem solving and mindfulness when figuring out how to observe and capture what’s there. Here’s some traditional media examples.
