I think we underrate that JCO came up in 20th century New York literary circles where everyone said five most devastating insults before breakfast and as one of the last one standing, her competition is guys who get sad if their chatbot isn't sufficiently nice to them.

With overpaid celebrities it's always "Hey, I don't get it and I'm innocent but OUR MOVIE is different cause we're only using genAi to save money, though I got paid my full fee of course, and anyone who doesn't like us using genAi is just butthurt."

Of course Pete Davidson is a big supporter of genAI and talks about “how awesome” it is. That’s cause he’s always sucked.

I don’t understand the TEDiverse. I saw one terribly unfunny movie over a decade ago, then there are clips from a live action show with a kid doing a wicked funny Baby Mark Wahlberg impersonation that looked good, and now there’s an ugly looking cartoon show.

It feels genuinely ridiculous having to say this, but the point of art is to connect with another human. Someone thought of that painting or melodic line or scene or paragraph that is suddenly making you weep, and that means that they saw you and understood you without even meeting you.

this is specifically what Twitter was re-engineered to do, btw. it exists almost solely to threaten anyone at the flashpoint of a nascent social movement.

Quietly the best character in TURN A GUNDAM. She‘s a badass who cries every time she loses anything. A battle. Her friends. A cup of coffee. Rock, Paper, Scissors. She loses A LOT.

EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC. No way a good movie but a fascinating one. Has moments of grace & visual magic but also is aggressively annoying at times (that damn Synchronizer!) & plain silly. Mostly it's just boring. Maybe could've worked as an original but as a sequel to THE EXORCIST it was doomed.

There are many many flaws to EXORCIST II but Ennio Morricone's banger score ain't one of them. His theme for Regan is *Demonic Chef's Kiss* www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq70...

Goddamnit BOORMAN AND THE DEVIL. You were a documentary so nice you've coerced me to do something I told myself I would never do again. Something I thought I never COULD do again. I have rented and am about to press play on .... John Boorman's EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC. It's Pazuzu Time.

No one likes generative ai. If you see a comment or something online where someone claims to like generative ai, that's actually a bot. If YOU like generative ai and you think "well I'm a person", you're wrong, you're just a bot, and you just don't know it.

Thing is David Fincher LOVED working at Netflix. Him leaving says so much about how the entire thinking, operation and goal of Netflix has changed. Art is out. Slop is in. Will not be surprised if other big name filmmakers working at Netflix don't renew their contracts.

A movie called MISTY GREEN directed by Chris Rock and featuring performances from big names like Adam Driver and Daniel Kaluuya (his first onscreen appearance since NOPE) comes out next weekend and this is the first I'm hearing of it. The A24 "we don't market half our movies" gimmick strikes again.

I've blocked every account I've seen that says "No one even likes the James Cameron AVATAR movies. Where's the meme pop culture impact? I'm repeating things said in 2014 cause I'm old, feeble minded and can't form an original thought of my own!" Number has to be at least near a thousand.

My worry of DIGGER bombing is Mr. Movies Tom Cruise will take it as evidence to avoid dramas & filmmakers with strong visions & he goes back to Franchiseland for the rest of his career. Hope DAYS OF THUNDER 2 is a one-off & we don't have to wait 9 years for the next original movie from him.

I am always amazed with and love "Secret CGI" in movies. Obviously I knew they used VFX in the film but there are several shots in this VFX Breakdown for THE DOG STARS that I thought were mostly practical & are almost all VFX. Movies are magic. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KsZ...

This is fascinating cause the girl Elisha and not the lead Üso Erwin (kid on left) is placed front and center and there are like 15 or 16 characters with more screentime and importance than her in VICTORY GUNDAM.

I know the solution to severe loneliness is being social and meeting people but when you have a debilitating fear that everyone hates and doesn’t want you around that is a hard solution to make happen.

BOORMAN AND THE DEVIL. Lovely documentary about the hectic production, release and response to an insane & not very good but incredibly ambitious movie where an artist, John Boorman, tried to make the impersonal, a movie franchise, very personal.

Campus rape is really widespread; statistics suggest a significant percent of women who go to college will be raped there; feminism opened up a good conversation about it around 2012-13; it's weird when people treated Cornell like an isolated rather than dramatic example of a pervasive problem.

Honestly would be for the best if Avengers: Endgame surpasses AVATAR on the box office list - not taking inflation into account makes it all irrelevant - cause 90% of the hate directed at Cameron’s masterpiece is merely cause it holds the #1 spot on that silly list.
