Heathcliff and Jimmy the Frog walk down the street. Heathcliff is wearing a helmet that reads "Ham", and Jimmy is wearing a helmet that reads "Flies". Two birds watch from a nearby tree, and one says "To each his own."

Moon Child began life as an Amiga AGA title before shifting to PC, where it finally saw release in 1997. A fascinating glimpse into a project caught between two eras. More here: www.gamesthatwerent.com/2026/04/moon...

I can't remember the name, but there's one from the 70s or 80s where the premise is just that a bunch of mental patients from the asylum break out and start killing random people in the suburbs. I was actually kind of impressed at how bald-faced it was, was worth watching on that basis alone

Muramasa: Revenant Blades bundles some of our favorite Vanillaware games into one cohesive package, and we went hands-on with it. It's especially beautiful in its new 4K rendition, and still just as fun as ever. More on that in our preview here: gameinformer.com/preview/2026...

4 isn't the most fair comparison, as DQ5 came out like a year? later, but FF5 wasn't crushing it either.

FF being the one known for pushing the graphic envelope is really weird; FF1 is pretty rough, and while I absolutely love the look of 2 and especially 3, they don't compete as well vs. DQ. Not to mention the outset of the SNES, with DQ5 vs... FF4. 4 has got a pretty rough look.

Finally, I got my ego boost looking at the gamefaqs guide for the ending stuff and seeing that it was recommended to go in at a much higher level than I did for final boss, final challenge, with +50 gear... my highest being +30 unoptimal weapon, and then ~+10s everywhere else on everyone else.

Haven't played SoSW, didn't finish SoSC, but it seems like a further interpretation of the decaying cycle that world finds itself in. The ending for Undernauts isn't necessarily even good, just better than the alternative. MC/underlings are still effectively prisoners, just without a mad god.

Oh, and the story was actually pretty good. Nothing cheap ever really happens, it's solidly written and paced, doesn't get in your way, motivates you nicely, they play the good shit at the right moments, got some memorable characters and everyone can shine. Same universe as SoSW/SoSC which is fun

The game is quite easy which brings the score down a lot. I game overed exactly once, on the pre-postgame final boss, and I stomped him the next attempt with all the same stuff. Dungeons were mostly weak. www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyqn... Interesting direction for final boss BGM! I like it.

Undernauts down. Perfectly cromulent 6/10 (if you're keeping track of who it is that I am, this is literally a good score), with the usual 10/10 audio engineering. Not only music, which features the very scarce GOOD orchestral vgm, but sound effects, volume intensity, music pacing, cues... all great
