If I were a Chicagoan with Welsh heritage that I liked to celebrate by doing Welsh cultural stuff with other Welshish-Americans, it would bother me to be represented in public by an account that posts mean-spirited and ignorant transphobia on the regular.
Account page for the Chicago Tafia Welsh Society, which apparently doesn't like trans people.

There's just no other reasonable explanation: the mainstream political media, and reactionary-centrist types in general, are, to various nonzero degrees, sympathetic to the fascist cause. This is even more true of the tankie (and tankish) left, but they are far less powerful and far fewer in number.

Well, what I always say, "I just want everybody to be treated good." I try not to get into the politics of everything. I try to get into the human element of it. I have some of everybody in my own immediate family and in my circle of employees. I've got transgender people. I've got gays. I've got lesbians. I've got drunks. I've got drug addicts — all within my own family. I know and love them all, and I do not judge.

And I just see how broken-hearted they get over certain things and I know how real they are. I know how important this is to them. That's who they are. They cannot help that any more than I can help being Dolly Parton, you know, the way people know me. If there's something to be judged, that is God's business. But we are all God's children and how we are is who we are.

A. The communist
Thinks Russia is still com-munist, & is standing up for the little guy against the evil corporate west.
Has absolutely no grasp of the reality of the modern world.
Denser than a neutron star.
B. The lefty antifascist (subtype of A)
Thinks a country having issues with neo-nazis (as many countries do), means that the whole society and it's Government are fascist.
Ignores polls showing how false that is, & evidence that there are just as many tas-cists in Russia. Thinks he/she is really clever.
C. The hard-right
Likes the fact that Russia is quite fascist. Attracted to the ultra-macho, racist, sexist Russian military culture.
Hasn't yet grasped that Russia's military is actually quite rubbish at fighting. Usually homophobic. Always an arsehole.
D. The contrarian
"Does own research", and doesn't trust the MSM.
Thinks saying the opposite of whatever Western media is saying is really clever, but swallows Russian propaganda like it's the jizz of the Gods. Thinks you're a stupid sheeple.
E. The peacenik
Thinks the war is NATO'S fault. Thinks Ukraine should surrender the occupied land to end the

Much of the criticism aimed at food companies ends up helping them. Railing against high-fructose corn syrup led not to healthier food, but to companies using "made with real sugar" as an ad slogan. The problem with GMOs has nothing to do with whether the modification is harmful to health: it's not.

Film criticism aside, Emily Wilson's review of the Odyssey concerned me because it misrepresents Late Bronze Age history and reinforces an old Eurocentric pattern of dismissing the experiences--and reality--of ancient peoples other than the Greeks.
Nolan’s other major addition to Homer’s narrative is the repeated reference to threats to ‘our civilisation’ from ‘the sea peoples’ – a now debunked 19th-century theory about maritime tribes who were thought to have attacked Egypt around 1200 BCE and to have also been responsible for the roughly coeval collapse of Mycenaean Greek culture. ‘Our civilisation is under attack,’ Penelope wails. Odysseus comforts her by saying that ‘Bronze Age civilisation’, including literacy, will rise again from the ashes. The current consensus, as Nolan clearly knows, is that there was no such thing as ‘the sea peoples’, and that the Greek-speaking world’s shift away from the more centralised, literate palace culture of the Mycenaeans in the 11th century BCE towards the fragmented social formations of the early Greek Iron Age was caused by a range of factors, including climate change, earthquakes and internal unrest. Nolan uses these competing historical theories to create a characteristic narrative twist about the identity of ‘the sea peoples’, which I will not spoil, though you can probably guess it.
