I mean, if I'm willing to get a tape deck in order to experience the nostalgic sound of tape warbling and aging audio, then I guess in some cases audio quality is clearly not a deal breaker. I dunno, maybe I'm just overthinking this.

In a few years, I do plan on saving enough to splurge on a proper mid tier or high end DAP like the Fiio M21 or one of the Sony Walkman DAPs. So, I guess even if one of the cheaper players has some drawbacks, they can be dealt with until I have the money for a proper audio player.

The Y2 is cheap enough that I can use the money from the refund of the iPod Touch that I can risk getting it, see how bad it actually is, and then return it if I hate it. And by that point, I think I'd go with the Fiio Snowsky Echo or HiBy R1.

I guess the closest I can get right now to an iPod Classic without spending hundreds on a flash modded iPod with a battery that will cack out because of it being old and already prone to issues; it's probably the Innioasis Y2. Is the audio quality really as bad as they say? Can it be fixed with EQ?

There is the "Sudo" music player that looks like a proper iPod copycat that even has a metal casing, USB-C, headphone jack, and lossless audio. But, it's $250 and is only available for reservations, which is expected to be shipped out by END OF 2027????? COME ON!

But AAAAAAAH! I WANT TO BE DONE WITH SPOTIFY! If the Y2 didn't have bad sound quality that everyone talks about, then it would be an absolute slayer. But, it's not. The only people insisting you buy it are TikTok influencers. Meanwhile every audiophile on YouTube says the sound quality blows.

All I want is a iPod style device with no internet connection, the ability to play lossless audio files, maybe have video support, work with modern technology via USB-C, and a headphone jack. Some devices come close, but end up having huge drawbacks that make me not want to buy it.

Even buying a used iPod isn't reliable, as I have learned from getting this 5th Gen Touch. They're old and prone to issues. The Innioasis Y2, nearly an iPod clone, but allegedly bad sound quality. Fiio Snowsky Echo, no playlist support. Any high end DAP, unaffordable for most people. 4 digit prices.

And this is why we have to rely on buying DAPs from companies that make less than perfect devices with one or more issues on every device they make. None of them can seem to capture the perfect audio player experience that most of us want without some huge drawback.

Tech giants are aware that people hate subscriptions and want to break off from them. They're full aware that subscriptions are becoming very hated and people want to own their media again and actually support artists. But, they won't let their cash cow die and will fight to make it the only option.

Apple relies on people using Apple Music and whatever other services Apple pushes through on the iPhone. So, making a new iPod Classic with no internet capabilities and not bloatware or any way of forcing AI onto it is something that they want no part of. They'll insist you subscribe to Apple Music.

All of this window shopping for a good Digital Audio Player, it's honestly just making me wish Apple would make a new iPod Classic. The demand is there. But, Apple will likely not do it. Most tech giants don't want to create devices that can't connect to the internet to be a distraction.

Although, there is the HiBy R1 that a lot of people have talked about. But, one thing I can't help but notice with every review I see of it is that the touch screen responsiveness looks awful. But, it does have a great DAC, sorts by albums, can make playlists, and play FLACs.

My plan was to get the Innioasis Y2 and install Rockbox on it to get a close enough experience to an iPod. And I never got to own an actual iPod Classic before and the look of the Y2 excited me. But, so many people are saying that the sound quality is trash. Might go for the Fiio Snowsky Echo.

After more research, the Innioasis Y2 might be off my list. As much as I really want that iPod Classic style aesthetic, a lot of people are saying that the audio quality on the Y2 is hindered by horrible impedance and sound staging despite having the same internal DAC as other devices.

Any other time I've had a notification of someone successfully logging into any of my accounts anywhere, I usually would get an email saying that there's been a successful login. But, thankfully I haven't gotten any of those yet.

Currently the only accounts that I've gotten emails for password reset requests are not entirely drastic if they were to be intruded. Some are even accounts I no longer use. I don't even know if this person has gotten access to my stuff or if this is just a failed attempt.

The situation with FurAffinity is pretty amazing. Advertisers threatened their advertising revenue because they considered Plus Sized characters and characters HUGGING to be adult content. So FA said fuck off, and in two days raised their entire yearly funding. Advertisers are so bullshit stupid.

One thing I'm gonna miss about this dingus is that specifically the 5th Gen iPod Touch has this weird lanyard button thingamabob, and it makes for a really good fidget device. I would literally go for like a half hour of holding this nugget and just pressing the lanyard button over and over again.

The iPod Touch is getting sent back. Headphone jack is borked and Elite Obsolete thankfully was kind enough to send a return label and offer a refund. Decided to give it a send off by listening to the one album I loaded onto it with Bluetooth headphones. And not wired headphones... Sadge

It's kind of a hard choice to make. I'm leaning toward the Fiio Snowsky Echo for the retro tape deck look and the sound quality with the option for a balanced output. But also leaning towards the Innioasis Y2 for the video support, playlist support, and that classic iPod style look.

Both have rechargeable batteries via USBC. The Y2 advertises a longer battery life than the Echo. But the Echo has an additional 4.4mm balanced output along with the standard 3.5mm output. Y2 is plastic, Echo is aluminum. Y2 has playlist support, Echo requires you to make folders for playlists.

Both the Echo and Y2 are capable of up to 2TB on an SD Card. Both can play lossless FLAC files. The Fiio Snowsky Echo is more retro oriented and is purely an audio player. While the Innioasis Y2 is going for the iPod Classic look and can also play videos, and can run Rockbox firmware like an iPod.

The iPod Touch is being sent back to Elite Obsolete. Headphone jack is definitely borked and isn't not fixable without having to get inside the device, which I don't wanna do. Returning and and considering some alternatives. Looking at the Fiio Snowsky Echo and the Innioasis Y2.

Now that I think of it, I might just send back this iPod Touch. As exciting as it was to get my first ever actual iPod, the broken headphone jack has kinda killed my excitement and looking at the Innioasis Y2, it seems like a better alternative. Supports 2TB SD card, Rockbox support, and USBC.

One device I have now been made aware of is the Innioasis Y1. Basically a copycat iPod classic but made of plastic and has flash storage and a USBC rechargable battery. The 64GB model is decent $65, but the 1TB model is overpriced at $300. But if I can crack it open, I can swap the SD card myself.

I do plan on having a full arrangement of music devices for getting rid of Spotify. Even if I can't get this iPod fixed, I'm gonna eventually look for a more high end FLAC player. As well as a tape deck and CD player. I want to get back to owning music and supporting artists.

Nothing happening when I cleaned the headphone jack. Used a pick and a swab with isopropyl alcohol and nothing changed about it. Must be something internal that needs to be fixed with the ribbon cable or just a bad jack. Sent an email to Elite Obsolete customer service. Hopefully it can be fixed.

So, the headphone jack is unfortunately borked. It sounds normal if I keep the volume halfway. But the moment I turn the volume up by one tick, the right ear gets blaring loud while the left stays the same. Gonna try to clean out the headphone jack, see if it works. If not, I may have to return it.
