This guy's new to me but his album's a real little gem. You can see why Dylan's had him him guesting with his stage band lately. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7V-d...

The show's also notable for a set list which digs pretty deep into the Stones' less familiar repertoire. Shattered, Melody, Brand New Cat etc all get an outing. Sheryl Crow's very good guesting on Honky Tonk Women, plus we get a great little mini-set from Keith. Wish I'd been there.

Taken from a 1999 Stones gig at the (for them) small venue of Shepherds Bush Empire. Movie of the full gig popped up on Sky Arts a few days ago, & turns out to be really rather good. From this song onwards (#10 of 19) the band's on great form & having fun. Don't miss www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pYt...

A commission from a few years ago.

Colour drawing of Asterix and Obelix. Asterix looks on from the sidelines as Obelix punches someone into the stratosphere - only their sandals remain. The Gaulish village is in the background.

Went to see Dowland Foundry's evening of music by the Elizabethan composer John Dowland last night at St James's church in Islington. The sound of Sami Brown's lute was particularly lovely in that setting.

I also discovered (again from the guided tour) that the chapel has a piece of Plymouth Rock, which was gifted to the congregation by their non-conformist brethren across the Atlantic.

PlanetSlade.com @planetslade.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

It's a non-conformist chapel, some of whose congregants believed all church music should be unaccompanied. When others wanted an organ, the compromise was to have one, but hide it behind the pulpit! Bands playing the venue today are encouraged to use the organ in their sets - yet none seem to do so!

Had an interesting morning today at Union Chapel in Islington's open day. The building's rose window shows angels playing every instrument mentioned in the Bible.

Today, 19 September, is Batman Day. You’d think there would be a signal or something but Anyway, here’s “Batman’s Aff His Nut”, by Robert Florence #poem #poetry #Batman #BatmanDay mothdancepoetry.wordpress.com/2018/10/13/b...

Batman’s aff his nut
Robert Florence

Batman’s aff his nut
Have you seen the way he cuts aboot
Dressed up as a mad fuckin bat
Batterin guys
I was lit at:
“Mate, I’m worried aboot ye
I know your ma and da died
But everybody’s ma and da dies
And we’re no aw runnin aboot
Hookin muggers and
Kickin psychopaths in the baws.”
And that was when Batman went
“Aye, but do ye ever feel like it?
Do you ever look at the world and feel like it?
Like having a big mad base under your hoose?
Do you ever feel like drivin a big mad motor
that turns intae a tank?
And leatherin fuck oot of guys aw night?
Scarin the fuckin shite oot of them?”
And that’s when I was lit at:
“Aye. Fuck it. Ah dae.”
And that’s the Secret Origin of Robin
And everyone else.

Blurry photo of a man (possibly a stunt-double?) in a (partial? certainly no cape) Batman costume, in daytime, on a wet Glasgow street – probably taken during the filming of the 2022 movie THE BATMAN, where Glasgow was a stand-in for Gotham City.

So, another year and another golden master OS release from Apple for all devices – Macs, iPhones, iPads, TV – yada, yada. But before you all rush to install, just hold off a couple of days. Remember the old adage – never install software with a point zero version number. You know it makes sense.

@goodnews.computer Smithfield in London had a 15ft shop window filled by a detailed HO scale model of the area - right down to people in the street. The rail lines had miniature versions of real London graffiti art. Friends & I traced a few of the real pieces used, which came from all over town.

Take a break from being depressed that everything you love is being destroyed by slop for a moment and let me tell you about the beautiful symbiotic relationship between graffiti writers, train yard workers, and model train enthusiasts.

And from the same trip: (1) Graffiti mural in the East Village .(2) Tourists crowding round the site's fences. (3) One of many opportunistic souvenir stands flogging 9/11 tat nearby. (4) Some people just wanted revenge. (5) My own ticket for the site's viewing platform. #9/11. #GroundZero.

I first visited Ground Zero in Feb 2002, about five months after the 9/11 attacks. The fences all round the WTC site were covered with offerings, some from those who'd lost a loved one on the day, others from people who just wanted to express their sympathy, anger or resolve. Here's some of my pics.

The book's not shy about underlining the correspondences in characters & cast, either. There's "the happy one" who got his spin-off show, "the spoilt one" who has the biggest movie career, "the fun one" who's secretly tortured & dies young in tragic circumstances. Lots more roman à clef stuff too.

Once, when I was sick in bed as a kid, my mum brought me a junkshop bundle of 1960s Metal Men & Doom Patrol comics to cheer me up. Whenever the characters come up now, I get a synesthetic taste of the Dairylea cheese triangles I was scoffing as I first read them. You've just triggered it again.

I liked Amol Rajan on the Today programme too, but did we really need 10 solid minutes of such abject brown-nosing about him to end today's broadcast? He hasn't died, he's just quit the show to go and do more work in commercial broadcasting. This truly was toe-curling stuff in both length & content.
