This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.

This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.

Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.

Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.

Abolish ICE.

“The boy could do this forever.” A poem by Ellen Bryant Voigt.
PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY

In the front yard, my father and his son
are playing ball, the round egg arcs
toward a lap of brown leather, the sound
of an axe on green wood, a bass
hitting the water. The boy
could do this forever—only one glove
between them and he has it—the fireflies
already discernible on the hillside,
the grass wet, he doesn't falter
as he skirts the waist-high crabapple
or backs across the gravelled drive.
What am I after? Not shagging flies
on the lawn with my father, and not
drying the last dish with a fresh towel.
My father is a stationary target
through increasing dark, and out from my brother's
cocked proficient arm, the ball leaps,
of its own volition, into his hand.

NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV's Al encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah's team then privately lobbied the pope's advisers "to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously." Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing.

The extraordinary move — holding back about one-fifth of the N.S.F.’s primary research budget — is the latest sign of how the Trump administration is finding creative ways to work around Congress. Lawmakers from both parties have consistently opposed White House-led proposals to cut funding to major science agencies, including the N.S.F. and the National Institutes of Health.

A digital illustration of a version of the big board from Wheel of Fortune. An array of green rectangles (each bearing an icon of a hand with crossed fingers inside a circle with rays), and white rectangles that indicate the letters in the secret phrase contestants are trying to guess. The board is not yet solved and reads like this:

M_YB_ I_
_ILL H_PP_N
__D_Y

Standing next to the board in a shiny pink and maroon evening gown and ready to turn around newly-guessed letters is a woman whose head is a human hand with crossed fingers.

Below the board in the space where viewers at home are informed what type of phrase is in play it simply reads ‘PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE’

Historical Marker Ahead @historicalmarker.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
My favorite bit from the historical marker for Ansley, Neb., population 450, is about the merchant in 1916 who came up with the town’s motto: “Push, that’s Ansley.” They still use it. I try to figure out what it means. But a voice keeps telling me, “Forget it, Bob, it’s Chinatown.” My brain hurts.
Historical marker in Ansley, Nebraska. It reads:

Ansley
1886-1986

In 1886, Ansley was platted in southeastern Custer County by the Lincoln Land Company, headed by R. O. Phillips. Ansley was named for Eliza J. Ansley, who invested in real estate there. The site was purchased from ranchman Anthony Walkinson. The Burlington and Missouri River Railroad (later the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy) reached the new settlement soon after it was founded. In 1986 approximately thirty-five Burlington Northern trains per day passed through Ansley.

Ansley was the first Nebraska town west of Grand Island to own a power plant and water system. The Ansley Electric Light and Power Company, built by C. J. Stevens, was incorporated September 20, 1892. Destroyed by fire in 1904, it was replaced by another power plant, which burned in 1910. The Municipal Light and Power System was completed in 1911. Ansley’s waterworks company was organized and its facilities completed in 1893.
Ansley reached its peak population of 817 in 1930. In its centennial year of 1986 the town’s more than 600 inhabitants continued to use the slogan applied to Ansley in 1916 by merchant William S. Mattley–“Push, that’s Ansley.”

“And how they pawed the prairie sod.” A poem by Carl Sandburg.
Buffalo Dusk

BY CARL SANDBURG

The buffaloes are gone.
And those who saw the buffaloes are gone.
Those who saw the buffaloes by thousands and how they pawed the prairie sod into dust with their hoofs, their great heads down pawing on in a great pageant of dusk,
Those who saw the buffaloes are gone.
And the buffaloes are gone.
