'The next generation of fear generalization' is out now at TICS!!!. Thrilled to see by @samcooper.bsky.social's interdisciplinary stylings pay off in this magnum opus. Hope it helps anchor the field & chart paths for where things head to next. Humbled & grateful to be involved 🙏

Culmination of many years of work and thought in my little sub area of psych and neuro. Big thanks to @gushennings.bsky.social and @plaing94.bsky.social for helping bring this one home. We hope it provokes thought and improvement in the realm of fear generalization research.

Excited to share that our review on "The next generation of fear generalization" is now in press in TICS! (www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...). Led by @samcooper.bsky.social, we review human and animal neuroscience of fear generalization and offer suggestions for future translational research.

New paper by Bruno Moses, Enzo Tagliazucchi, & me in which we critique the Entropic Brain Hypothesis & neural entropy metrics regarding what they can tell us about psychedelic fx. Lots of technical and theoretical points, but I'd like to highlight a few. 1/10 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

This paper has been a long time coming. Instead of reanalyzing the same old resting-state fMRI datasets, we combined nearly all datasets around the world. Note that we didn't exactly find indisputable evidence for "default mode network disintegration." www.nature.com/articles/s41...

An international mega-analysis of psychedelic drug effects on brain circuit function - Nature Medicine
Analysis of neuroimaging datasets across five major psychedelics revealed a shared brain signature and provides a comprehensive insight into how these drugs reorganize brain architecture.

What happens if you inhibit the amygdala during the formation of emotional episodic memories? Simple answer, right? We thought so too but ended up finding memory enhancements after inhibiting the amygdala via transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS). 1/2 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Enhanced Episodic Memory Following Putative Inhibition of the Amygdala via Transcranial Low-Intensity Focused Ultrasound
The amygdala is considered crucial to the formation of emotional episodic memories, but causal evidence in humans is limited due to challenges in non-invasive neuromodulation of deep brain structures....

New paper!!! Pooled data (17 conditioning+memory exp) to figure out (a) robustness of emotional temporal biases (attribute items to threat context even if encoded before or afterwards) and (b) how this predicts emotional memory enhancement. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

I haven't posted on here much, but this new paper from the lab seems like as good reason as any: How the nature of weak learning and retention interval affects behavioral tagging of episodic memory. psycnet.apa.org/record/2026-...

So pleased to share the (maybe?) final output from my PhD thesis (2yrs later), a labor of love (specifically, love of learning theory) We outline a view of 'Pavlovian safety learning' as an interesting psychological construct in its own right, based on insights from learning theory rdcu.be/dRCSg
