Excited to share that our review on "The next generation of fear generalization" is now in press in TICS! (www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...). Led by @samcooper.bsky.social, we review human and animal neuroscience of fear generalization and offer suggestions for future translational research.

I used to love this time of year, hearing from students applying to work in my lab. No more. Every day a fresh batch of nearly identical emails with nonsensical remixes of the text on my lab website. It makes me so sad.

PSA for trainees cold emailing with interest in joining a lab: Be careful about your use of LLMs in writing these emails!! It is now *extremely* common to get emails with a bizarrely-detailed, clearly-LLM take on a paper finding or with specific phrases pulled from the lab website. Don’t do this!

Neural Reinstatement of Encoding Context Mediates the Switch between Fear and Extinction Recall
Abstract. Fear conditioning and extinction generate conflicting memory representations for a conditioned stimulus (CS). Retrieval of either memory is largely determined by the context where the CS is ...

Our new paper is out in @natmed.nature.com 😱! A thread: Can our thoughts and feelings directly affect our physical well-being? Our pre-registered, double-blind RCT investigated this by testing if modulating the brain's reward system could enhance immune responses to vaccination.

New lab paper: "Emotional learning selectively distorts the temporal organization of memory: A quantitative synthesis." Across 17 different studies, fear conditioning consistently distorted temporal source memory for information encoded before and after. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Overjoyed to share that I have received an NOA for my F32 NRSA fellowship with @kennethanorman.bsky.social and @yaelniv.bsky.social! I honestly don't know how it got funded this week, but I'm so thankful to everyone who supported me in this.

Absolutely insane. I was lucky enough to receive an F31 when I was a grad student - it was one of the earliest and strongest signals I received that science was a viable career option. Having it ripped away from me after years of work would have crushed me. I'm so sorry to those affected.
