My first thought when Trump won was that Ukraine and Gaza were both fucked. My heart hurts especially for Ukraine, because we really can't fix Isreal because of US politics. Abandoning Ukraine is also abandoning our allies in Europe.

I suspect this is a literary conceit I'll often return to as a writer in the years ahead: the idea that Trump perceives himself as lord of a 13th century duchy rather than a 21st century democracy. That he'd blithely exempt himself from an ethics pledge is one of many indications he aims to be King.
