I have a story out now in "Short Lived Nightmares", a horror zine! (links to come) Gonna use this as motivation for getting my physical zines up for sale on my site. I'll let you all know when I have copies ready. (I'll do digital downloads, too)

This is my first year balancing post-season baseball with the upcoming PWHL season. Baseball and I are old friends, hockey and I are just getting acquainted. It's kinda wild but also really fits autumnal vibes that something so summer-oriented is crossing paths with thoroughly winter-centric stuff.

#ScribesAndMakers 2Oct—Do you think it's important for authors to use different pen names for different genres? This is something I'm actively struggling with. I don't particularly want to, but I can see a situation where it may be useful.

Hmm, the closest I can come up with vibe-wise for the "Take On Me" cast is Heated Rivalry, but not the hockey parts. They would be besties with the gang at the Kingfisher in episode 3. Otherwise, they'd fit best with the Ted Lasso gang. #LitHodgepodge 2 #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts #WriteSky

#WritersCoffeeClub Oct 2: Do you have plans for your next work yet? Sort of? There's a lot of thinking going on, about the characters and what the shape of the book might look like. Nothing formal yet.

Hi! I'm JP. I write mostly fantasy (some of it in outer space) and contemporary fiction, dipping my toe into romance writing. This was really hard because with so many of these, it depends! Reformed pantser, now a plotter, working towards slow craft. #LitHodgePodge 1 #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

My current writing plan is to work my way through the rest of "Story Genius", which is truly transforming how I'm approaching my writing. Then I'm going to take all my major works in progress and put them through the SG blueprint process. #amwriting

Lots of tech glitches and general obstacles everywhere I turn. This is Mercury retrograde-level weirdness, but it is not, in fact, in retrograde. So wtf? Just knocking them down as they come at me. My life is currently an endless runner game.

#WritersCoffeeClub Sep 24. Do you write primarily for yourself or for a reader? Both. Myself to get the story out of my head and at least one particular reader so I have reason to refine it into something to share.

Things I'm currently struggling with as a middle-aged hobbyist writer: - to pseudonym or not - I hate social media, but love connecting - no one cares so why write - accepting I won't be prolific because day job - which project should get my attention

#WritersCoffeeClub Sep 21 - What can a reader know to be true about you from your work? I really love music, tea, and would maybe like to have a dog one day. I'm also (I'm told) exceedingly kind but not a pushover.

I really want to build some old style website that's messy and not perfectly aligned, minimalist perfection. I don't even know what it would be for, just that it would be intentionally grungy and unique.

damn. My contract just ended unexpectedly. Gonna take the weekend off, then back to the grind, and unemployment. I haven't had steady work since last Nov and I'm just tired of the uncertainty. Grateful for the couple bits of contract work I've had though! Anyone need me? aquantityofstuff.com/

I was looking for a lighter weight markdown editor for quick opening/editing and came across github.com/MarkEdit-... which is nice, has a solid philosophy behind it (keep it small and simple) and the curated plugin list is just enough to feel good to me.

Introducing NEO - Hugh Howey
Nine years ago, I wrote a blog post about my ideal novel writing tool called NEO. You can read that original post here. The problem I was trying to solve was replicating the clean, crisp workflow I’ve always had in Apple’s Pages, before Apple updated and ruined Pages. Most of my novels have been written […]

One reason why AI is getting backlash is that despite the increasingly frantic repeats of “it’s the inevitable future!!!” it epitomizes why tech has lost all of its public goodwill bc it no longer promises to shape our future but instead just wants to keep regurgitating the last for endless sale

#WritersCoffeeClub Aug. 19: How do you write characters with expertise outside your own? Some percentage of research and some percent of faking it. It takes surprisingly little understanding to give characters an accurate flavor of expertise, unless their expertise is the focus of the story.

My current version of a book tracker is the apple Journal app. I just dump the title and a few thoughts as an entry when I finish a book. I could do this with any journal type app or just a document. I make a new journal for each year and it's exportable to markdown now. #amreading

I'm a "discovery" writer who's discovered that outlining will enable me to get stuff written. I want a tool that will let me update from anywhere, will help me rearrange & organize scenes, and that will work with more than just a single sentence (adding notes and thoughts) as the outline grows. 1/2

I get often backed up on my emails. There's folks I want to give answers to and also just connect with. Sometimes there's just too many and it feels like too much. To solve the problem, I have taken to calling, answering my emails "doing my correspondence" like a proper Edwardian lady. 1/2

#WritersCoffeeClub Aug 4: Do you consider yourself a writer, an author, an artist, something else? Why? I consider myself a software engineer who writes? I think "writer" feels the most authentic to me. It's a bit utilitarian, I suppose, but it works.

i'm reading this: manuscriptalchemy.co... lots of good nuggets and it's changing my perspective on extensive outlining. I've always been a "discovery" writer but if I want to actually get anything done with the way my life is now, that method just doesn't work for me anymore.
