“The editor's cut was about six hours long. | like to put everything together so that we can go back and look at it later. It's all got to be assembled at some point. It's footage that | can insert into a sequence or insert into the movie. If it's a scene that was lifted - even though | know some of it, in my heart will definitely not go into the movie - | just have it edited so that it's something that we can refer to. Or maybe there's a piece of it we can use after having an assembly and weeding out the stuff that's absolutely not going to be in the movie. We ended up with a 3:45 cut of the movie that we screened for test audiences. It wasn't practical to release a long movie like that, so we made some tough decisions an
did some fancy montages and jump cutting just to make things go a little bit quicker and hone it down. The movie that was released was the best version of
the movie. It's entertaining. It holds your attention.”

Choose Life? Protect Life? Nah, profit is everything #EPA #Profiteering
Title:
Pollution & Profit - are everything
People & lives - mean nothing
Text:
Trump’s EPA will no longer consider impacts
on human lives when setting pollution limits,
focusing instead on costs to businesses.
Since the 1980s, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
has used a metric called the “Value of a Statistical Life,” which
essentially assigns a value to human life, when considering cost-
benefit analysis of pollution limits. As TechCrunch simplified,
“lowering pollution can prolong human life, so if the health
benefits of reducing pollution outweighed the costs, then there
was an economic argument to be made in favor of reductions.”

The Trump administration’s EPA has now decided to reverse
decades of practice when it comes to considering the impacts
on human lives when setting pollution limits on fine particle
matter and ozone - two of the most widespread air pollutants.
(Long-term exposure to both pollutants is linked to asthma,
heart and lung disease and premature death.) The agency will
instead estimate -only- the cost to businesses.

Per reporting from NYTimes, who obtained internal documents
of the plans, “The change could make it easier to repeal limits on
these pollutants from coal-burning power plants, oil refineries,
steel mills and other industrial facilities across the country, the
emails and documents show. That would most likely lower costs
for companies while resulting in dirtier air.”

‪From David Marx‬ ‪@digthatdata.bsky.social‬ "Crazy idea: What if we make electricity cost more for non-residential use?" As is, #AI datacenters and #Bitcoin farms get charged LESS than residential users while we SUBSIDIZE their excesses. Exactly the WRONG […] [Original post on mindly.social]
Right now, the message our rate structure sends is:

* "Use a little electricity? Pay premium prices!"
* "Use massive amounts? Here's your bulk discount!"
* "Want to mine Bitcoin or smelt aluminum? We'll subsidize that for you!"

It's like giving someone a discount on cigarettes for buying 10 packs instead of 1 - it encourages exactly the behavior we should be discouraging.

What a Rational Structure Would Look Like

Aggressive Progressive Pricing: Each additional kWh costs MORE than the previous one, not less. Maybe:

* First 500 kWh/month: $0.10/kWh
* Next 1,000 kWh: $0.15/kWh
* Next 5,000 kWh: $0.25/kWh
* Above 10,000 kWh: $0.50/kWh+

This would make energy-intensive operations pay their true environmental cost rather than getting a free ride from residential ratepayers.

The Climate Connection

Every kWh consumed during peak hours or in regions with dirty grids directly translates to more fossil fuel burning. By subsidizing high consumption, we're literally paying companies to accelerate climate change while ordinary families struggle with their electric bills.

 The original NO KINGS DAY when we remember what was in the Declaration of Independence.

The King, Jefferson wrote,

1. "Has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures (what would he make of the billions that now to be spent on armed ICE officers?)

2. "Has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power. (this is now violated by the mobilization of the marines against the will of the government of California)

Also, the king was faulted as a Despot for:

3. "Cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world" (tariffs are doing the same thing)

4. "Transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences” (deportation of people to El Salvador)

Here's the nuclear agreement that Obama and our allies negotiated with Iran:
* Iran agreed to give up 98% of their enriched uranium and their centrifugres
* Iran couldn't build a new reactor for 25 years
* Iran agreed to never develop nuclear weapons
* Iran agreed to allow 24/7 access for nuclear inspectors to confirm their compliance.

Although Iran complied, Trump killed the agreement in 2018, thus enabling Iran to develop nuclear weapons again.

And that's why Iran is on the verge of developing nuclear weapons today.

SCATHING ruling against Trump's National Guard crackdown in LA. In his ruling (excerpted below), you can hear Judge Breyer scoffing at Homeland Security's misguided and empty justification for inciting violence against the people. This should hold implications […] [Original post on mindly.social]
NEWSOM vs TRUMP - Judge Rules: Crackdown was ILLEGAL

“The Court must determine whether the President followed the congressionally mandated procedure for his actions. He did not.

His actions were illegal—both exceeding the scope of his statutory authority and violating the United States Constitution. He must therefore return control of the California National Guard to the Governor of the State of California forthwith.

By law, Pres may only federalize Nat Guard of a State if U.S. is (about to be) invaded or there is a (imminent) rebellion against U.S. govt or if Pres is unable to execute fed laws with regular forces.

[T]he Court is troubled by the implication inherent in Defendants’ argument that protest against the federal government [a First Amendment right, constitutes] rebellion.

[C]ourts have repeatedly reaffirmed that peaceful protest does not lose its protection merely because some isolated individuals act violently outside the protections of the First Amendment…”

Bottom line: The Court says the President doesn’t get to define “rebellion” or deploy armed forces any old way he pleases. Free speech and States’ Rights still apply.

This is insanely reckless. This would be like someone in the "horseless carriage" days declaring that there could be no traffic or safety laws for the next ten years ... just because. That's absolutely wrong-headed. New tech is likely to need new regulations as […] [Original post on mindly.social]
Republicans are literally trying to sneak a clause into the 2025 budget reconciliation bill that prevents the regulation of AI for 10 years. Why isn't everyone sounding the alarm about this ?;

Only in America have we not done this... Aside: My son, a civil engineering major, has studied and simulated widening highways and it is widely known it doesn't help. Yet... We keep funding these "more pavement is better" mega-projects.
Text over picture of high-speed train:
"Wild idea: We should make huge self-driving cars that can fit 100+ people in them and put them on tracks. Then we can make the cars go 200 mph between cities for ~$20."

One of my favorite analogies about #Capitalism and #entrepreneurship The same "you-can-do-it-too!" illusion allows some to say #DEI initiatives are unnecessary. "See, that [marginalized group member], made it! If you didn't, you just didn't try hard enough."
Entrepreneurship is like one of those carnival games where you throw darts or something.

Middle class kids can afford one throw. Most miss. A few hit the target and get a small prize. A very few hit the center bullseye and get a bigger prize. Rags to riches! The American Dream lives on.

Rich kids can afford many throws. If they want to, they can try over and over and over again until they hit something and feel good about themselves. Some keep going until they hit the center bullseye, then they give speeches or write blog posts about "meritocracy" and the salutary effects of hard work.

Poor kids aren't visiting the carnival. They're the ones working it.

"Only Attack Plans" they testified. FYI: #TulsiGabbard is DIRECTOR of the agency that sets the rules and its official guide to national secrets says that even "attack plans" are TOP SECRET. So, the #SignalGate crew are guilty BY HER OWN RULES of "grave damage" to our national security.
Excerpt from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence's Classification Guide that clearly states that sharing "attack plans" is a breach of "TOP SECRET" national security information.
