Said goodbye to my cat sister Lara, a.k.a. the Countess von Flufflebutts. 💔

Lara when she was a kitten, lying on the kitchen table, looking very elegant and alert.

A much older Lara, lying on the couch with her paws in front of her, looking very content.

Not a bad first run after all this time. I still have the muscle memory for checking certain spots in certain rooms but I've forgotten why. 😅

Property serialization works now. 👍

C++ code that writes a three-component vector containing values {1, 2, 3} to a property object, serializes that property to disk, loads it from disk into another property object, casts that one back to a vector, and compares it against the original, confirming that they are the same.

Dark Souls turns 15 years old this week (ish, NA release was Oct. 4), and I thought it would be fun to replay it on the 360 again, with 10 fps in Blighttown just as Miyazaki intended. 🥴

It's inevitable and everyone's already using it and you're going to be left behind but pretty please can we steal your decades of effort to feed our slop engine.

Getting property type conversion working. It's less automated than I'd hoped and I'm brushing up against the limits of C++ a little*, but it's still kind of magic. *virtual template functions pls i understand why it's not realistic but i wants it

C++ program code illustrating how a number of different types (integer, floating point decimal, and three-component vector) can be interchanged through a custom property system.

Reposting this one from the old site for no raisin.

A three-panel scene from an episode of Adventure Time in which Finn encounters a Demon Cat.

Demon Cat: Greetings, Frank the Human Boy.
Finn: How did you almost know my name?
Demon Cat: As an AI language model, I have approximate knowledge of many things.

Just some normal C++, nothing to see here. 🙂

C++ code that casts a string hash to a generic property type, makes changes to it by reference, retrieves the altered string from the generic property, prints it to a new string object, and then casts that string object back to the same generic property. Debug output verifies that the string is correctly held.

Oh right, I was working on getting my old scripting language working again. There we go.

Finished splitting config data between Local and Roaming AppData so I can omit device-specific data from e.g., Steam Cloud syncing. I probably need to rework control bindings for better cross-platform support too but like. I'll cross that bridge when and if I ever ship on Mac and Linux again.

Two File Explorer windows pointed to my Roaming and Local AppData folders, each containing a file named Config.ini. Next to these, two Notepad windows display the contents of each. The roaming file contains device-independent values, while the local file contains video and input device values.

Hrm, priority icons aren't showing up in my Jira projects anymore even though they still very much exist in the settings. I choose to blame vibe-coding for this.

The details panel for a Jira issue in my engine project. The priority field is set to P2 and has some empty space next to the text where an icon should appear.

The list of priorities in the admin settings, from P1 to P5 and with PP (priority pending) as default. The icons show up correctly here.

It is time. I finally watched The Guest just a couple days ago; not sure whether this one is a stealth sequel or a spiritual successor but if it’s anything like that one, it should be a good time.

Eeyyy, there’s the right poster. Real good film, sort of a liminal space thing that gets its horror tropes out of the way early so it can spend the rest of its time Being About Something.

I don't think I've posted about it but the new Menzingers album? Real good.
