It’s been an atrocious week. Time to lick my wounds and binge some @thehornesection.bsky.social Juju’s helping with snuggles, too.

That’s a good way of putting it. While all of my losses have sucked when I realized I couldn’t do that thing any more, most them I was at least relatively prepared for that to part of the disease/dying process. No one warned me about this.

Also, the first time I tried to actually laugh really hard tonight, it took awhile (probably only about 30-45 seconds) for my ventilator to recalibrate and force a breath. The irony that I was suffocating while watching the @dimension20.dropout.tv cast play immortal beings was not lost on me. 😂🫁 😰☠️🧛‍♀️

I’ve lost a lot of skills to my terminal neurodegenerative disorder (walking, cooking, eating solid food) but I think this one might be the worst as comedy has been such a coping mechanism for me. I am glad I can still appreciate the humor of my favorite shows even if I can’t express it anymore.

Tonight, I learned that within the last week (since the @taskmaster.tv finale) I’ve lost the ability to laugh. I’ve not laughed normally for a couple years, but now either my weak muscles just spasm preventing any airflow until my ventilator forces a breath or a little wheeze escapes. Dying sucks!

At least there was an attempt at diversity this year. Featuring artists of color and models/ mannequins with physical disabilities and body differences. I don’t think it’s inherently immoral for us to support things just to spread joy and confront societal norms but the finances of it are worrisome

It took me 3.5 hours to get through the episode because I had to keep stopping and rewinding because I missed things while laughing/coughing. Maybe not the best choice to watch while extremely ill with pneumonia, but well worth it. Siobhan and Emily’s characters are absolutely killing me this season

Yesterday, I suddenly got extremely ill. Today we confirmed that I have pneumonia again and had a very not fun conversation about my likelihood of surviving this crisis given how weak my body is. Spoiler: odds aren’t great. But then I saw this sweet goose family on my way home, and that helped

Before my strokes started I went to this coffee shop 2-3 times a week. Because of my disabilities I had to ask for help a lot and got to know most of the staff but it’s a popular enough place that I never expected this sort of welcome when I returned. Dying is often so lonely. Today was a good day

After a year of recurrent strokes leaving me mostly homebound, today I was able to go back to my usual coffee shop before PT. The manager met me at the door, order in hand, and led me to my favorite table. Meanwhile, I was met with a chorus of “Beth’s back!” And “we’ve missed you” from other staff

Brennan was impressed I had comfortably gotten to sleep with my entire body on the bus seat and Siobhan fixed my earbuds. We arrived, but the bus lift was broken so the team worked to get my char out the back fire exit while I crawled down the stairs. The vivid detail of every second was wild.

Narcoleptic Narcotic dreams are wild. Today I dreamed I was back in undergrad with my pre-stroke brain but same physical disabilities I have now and fell asleep on a bus to a quiz bowl meet. Then inception style found myself inside my current D& D campaign, where we’re traveling in the dream realm

I was denied declined from hospice today. Less than a week after a senate committee voted to move forward with an assisted suicide bill in my state. It’s hard horrifying that people are advocating that I should be allowed to kill myself but also making quality care nearly impossible to access. 😢

As someone who has experienced tremendous grief and is now actively dying at age 33, death sucks and death is normal beautiful part of life is a dichotomy I sit with daily. At my funeral, I hope there will be peels of laughter. I also hope someone says it sucks that I’m gone.
