I can understand the idea of a Betila redesign that's less risque and fits the tone of the remake, but the least they could do is keep the shape language of her design congruent with the other characters she's speaking with.

I honestly think there's merit to a more serious Lion King reinterpretation, but you have to COMMIT to the concept, which means jettisoning concepts that don't support the vision. If not, why bother when the original film exists.

(I'm really sorry if this sounds rude,) This whole thing reminds me of the live action Lion King remake. The film wanted to go with a more realistic art style, but still kept elements from the original, like the music and humor, that clashed with its direction and made it look WORSE.

Origins and Legends have a distinct art language meant to convey a specific idea. Any changes are going to muddy that idea. I'd rather have a full commitment to this newer art direction rather than a compromise, especially since the originals are still available for purchase.

Inversely, this drawing from the Rayman socials makes the new Teensie designs look genuinely appealing. The main thing has to do with the position of the eyes. They're resting against the head rather than sitting flush on top like the renders. Adjustments were made to help them look good -

My main examples of this are the designs for Murphy and the Teensies. Their design's weren't adapted to fit into a realistic 3d artstyle, and it leads to the characters feeling a little gross. I don't have an issue with Rayman being gross, I just get the impression that they aren't SUPPOSED to be.

My main issue with the art direction is that the realistic direction isn't gelling with the UBIART design sensibilities. I honestly don't have an issue with a realistic rayman, its just that the game doesn't want to make any concessions to make that art style work.

I promise you, I am incredibly excited for Legends Retold. I'm not here add to any more negativity. Yet, I have to be honest and say that Betilia's design bothers me. I don't even think its bad in isolation, it just represents a distinct incongruity in the game's art direction

something the "every old smash character is outdated & should be overhauled" crowd never considers that smash itself is a large part of the characters legacies by now, like im more attached to marios current moveset than any individual 3d mario game despite a few being some of my favorite games ever

Acting tip for comic book artists: Don't play the emotion right on the surface. Give the character some internality. Don't just think of what they feel. Think of what they want people to think of them. Think about the lies they tell themselves. Give them thoughts they don't know they're having.
