A few months ago we hid scores from other users in most places, and in today's app update (v5.4.25) we add them back on the machine details screen. It looks like this. You can see your own (top 10), and all scores (also top 10).

Now we have six months of Pokemon pinball data, so we've updated this chart. Here's how many copies of different machines were added to locations on Pinball Map during the first 6 months of their release. Pokemon doing very well. #pinball

Bar chart showing number of copies of a pinball machine put on location in the first six months after release. Lists 10 different machines from multiple manufacturers. Pokemon is clearly in the lead, with 1,420 added.

New app update. The "Route" button at a location now gives you a selection of which installed map app you want to use for directions.

And a cute lil draggable bottom sheet on the map. Just a small design adjustment - no navigational or structural change.

New app update. Only focused on some design changes. Radical (in the surfer slang sense) redesign of the location details page. Less wall of text.

New app update. This one: - Support for All Ages and Free Play location-level fields. - When filtering locations, include a (i) button that summarizes the applied filters. - Greatly expanded universal/deep link support, so that urls with params will be respected. - MORE Vid demo

While the new fields are available on the website map, the app as always lags behind. The next app update is in review. We rarely ever add new fields, in part due to the data issues. To help, filter by All Ages and edit any locations that are improperly showing up.

Added a thing on the website that reminds you what you're looking for, in case you forgot. Might need some work.

Two of the features from yesterday's app update were suggested by users last week. Shoutout to @dri374.live for the idea for sorting by "rarest", and phishrace for sorting by newest. Below is an example showing sorting by newest to quickly discover where a new machine is.

Here's an interesting way to find rare on location games. This video pulls up San Francisco, filters machines and selects the rarest machine with the map view, then shows which location has it.

Also, when filtering locations on the map, you'll be able to sort the "machines on map area" list by rarest to see what's rare nearby. And also see what machines are not in your "life list" if you like to track what you play.

Last week two totally unrelated people asked for a "spinning wheel" to help them decide which machine to play. We just added it on the website (at any location with >1 machine). Feelings? Seems kind of fun.

Made a decent-sized change to the Search UX on the website. Simplified the search input so that geographic searches and exact location name searches are combined in the same field. Then aligned UI with the app by moving other search options into a "Filter" modal. Next could be adding more filters.

New feature added: track all the machines you've ever played. AKA your pinball life list. You can add machines via your profile, or by adding a score, or by a button on the machine details. It's not for tracking location-specific games, but just canonical machines. It's just for fun.

We added another stat to Stats on the website. This one is a bar chart showing counts of map edits (and related) for all 12 types of submissions that we track. Data is not for ALL time, but just for the years we've been tracking this. Looks like this Found at pinballmap.com/stats (best on desktop)

Sometimes people are like, “you should add a notice when a location hasn’t been updated in a while.” And we say, “we do. We do that.” Turns out the notice was “too many words” long, so people didn’t read it. Now we shortened it and made it pulse.

We just made a pretty big design change on the website. - Removed map "zoom limits" so now you can quickly refresh the map anywhere. - New symbology. It changes as you zoom (the # of machines text is not great at managing conflict - sorry) - The map autoloads nearby results on initial page load.
