giving away 4 quail meant this one was left alone in its pen & needs to join another group. quail are not nice to newcomers (they've forgotten they used to know it as chicks 🙄) so we begin careful integration... hopefully once I've picked out which 5-6 I'm keeping they can form a peaceful flock...

Found a guy to take my male quail, yay! I was getting nervous since two of them had already gotten into a fight and it can be hard to re-home roosters. Down to 8 birds now, and he said if any more of mine are boys he'll take em... big aviary setup, apparently. keeping the quietest boy for myself : )

He had brain surgery (duraplasty). If infection or fluids reach the brain by breaching the healing area, it would be almost guaranteed fatal. Right now, the urgency is in keeping infection at bay and fluid buildup removed. If left untreated, the risks increase significantly each day.

RIP, #9. Took it to the vet because its leg was twisting the wrong way and was in pain. X-ray revealed not an injury, but poorly-developed legs giving out as it grew. kinked and bent spine, both legs with differing mobility issues. Born much more deformed than I realized... I let the little guy go.

For those you don't know how this works, when a video gets copyright claimed, 100% of its revenue starts going to the claimant. The only way for a claim to be automatically removed is to trim out the claimed clip, obviously bad if the clip has original narration over it. Songs have to be muted. -R

the runt has somehow twisted its leg, so I'm taking it to the vet tomorrow. I'm also going to ask their opinion on its quality of life. most of what I've seen of HxH is the chimera ant arc with someone explaining to me the characters and superpowers I don't know, but I love how so much of it is a narrator explaining the thought processes of each character during increment microseconds of action and it's somehow fucking awesome

the cutest thing happened last night though 🥺 I turned off the lights in their room, and they started peeping all at once and rustling around. I turned on a dim lamp and they immediately calmed down. Normally the heat lamp is on, so they've never been fully in the dark before. they got scared 🥺😭
