Howdy #scicomm 🧪 folks! I'm offering a new online workshop called "introduction to design skills for communicating research" on Zoom on the 23rd September 1-5pm BST. Details here: www.infohackit.com/intro-to-des... Shares appreciated!
A panel advertising a new workshop "introduction to design skills
for communicating research" from the training company infohackit. The workshop is on Zoom on the 23rd September 1-5pm (BST). You can improve your design literacy with theory of colour, images, typography and composition as well as practical software skills to put them into practice. The workshop will help you make better
•	Conference posters
•	Infographics
•	Journal figures
•	Graphical abstracts

A graphic showing RGB and CMYK colour systems, and two examples of design fonts (Arial and Times). The times font has highlights showing it's serifs (the little decorations some fonts have). There's also a caption that reads "Boost your knowledge of graphic design"The panel shows graphic design software (Affinity) in use, with a layers panel open showing the components of an illustration. The illustration is of a red kite (the bird!) rendered in simple vector objects. The panel shows a screen grab from the infohackit Dicord server, with example posts from a forum about different design topics – eg. text wrap in Affinity

Mindful on #EarthDay that the things we do have downstream effects, literally true regarding coastal marshes and estuaries -beautiful buffers between land and sea provide storm protection, habitat, disproportionate carbon storage - that without care we risk losing. #EveryDayisEarthDay.

Multiple Early Career Faculty Positions in Ecology

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for multiple, tenure-track assistant professor positions that will enhance existing institutional excellence in ecology. We are searching broadly for creative and collaborative individuals (1) working at any spatial scale, from local to global, in any system, (2) studying any level of biological organization, from genes to ecosystems, and (3) using any mode of inference, from empirical to theoretical. Applicants should demonstrate research excellence that crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries; ongoing growth in the department will emphasize new hires that use quantitative and/or integrative approaches to study ecological processes. Postdoctoral experience is desirable in applicants. Successful candidates will engage with and benefit from UNDERC, Notre Dame’s 8000-acre environmental field station and home to NEON’s Great Lakes domain, superb on-campus chemical and genomic analytical facilities, an experimental research facility located close to campus, cross-disciplinary interactions through multiple centers and institutes including the Environmental Change Initiative, and a unique Interdisciplinary Graduate Training Program in Environment and Society. New faculty will benefit from Notre Dame’s recent campus-wide Strategic Framework that included the Just Transformations to Sustainability Initiative. Modern research facilities exist in a new environmental research building, which opened in 2025.

On this #EarthDay, it's worth remembering why, in 1970, it was created (smog-choked cities, toxic waste/sewage dumping, and yes, a burning river) and importantly, what followed, like the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, helping to preserve scenes like this. We are stewards, not just users. 💚💙🌎
