I'm blessed to have a nearly-15 year old who loves the fells as much as I do, and who is as happy on top of Nethermost Pike in cloud this year as he was in sunshine 4 years ago

Why yes, you idiot moggy, I do have a friend with a very long ladder, and fortunately he also has infinite patience to wrestle with you 25ft off the ground to get you home safely
A man in a black top and black peaked cap holds onto the base of a ladder stretching up a tree in a leafy wood. Other, shorter, ladders are propped against neighbouring trees, unused.

Hello down there! I seem to be a little bit stuck. Any chance you have a ladder long enough to come and get me? Of course I'll co-operate, and not try and escape along a branch not strong enough for my weight, or cling fiercely to the tree with every fibre of my being when you try and pick me up.
A view straight up a slender tree trunk into the upper branches, where a calico cat stares down from a perch on a narrow branch

Need to go back. The boy's only climbed Bowfell once, which is not enough.

Reasonably happy with my use of my bank holiday Monday. Would rather be there in person than drawing it from the Fens, but you can't have everything!

I didn't quite get the same angle in April and August, but I still rather like the contrast of blossom then sloes and the treeless branches in Spring being lush green in Summer

Histon Hornets 5-a-side football tournament... 215 teams, 593 matches, 13 pitches, 30 referees, 1500+ players, 1.5 days. And me at the helm leading an extraordinary gang of volunteers doing it all for the love of the game. Might be a bit tired now

Life as a grassroots coach... One of your players has outgrown his boots and is in pain so you lend him your boots for the game. And he scored with them on 💪

I've always wanted to have alliums in my garden. Aged 50, and prompted by @silverpebble2.bsky.social telling me I can buy plants for myself if I want, I planted allium bulbs this year. First one is almost out 😍

A beautiful day yesterday at RSPB Fowlmere. Heard my first cuckoo of spring, saw my first swallow of the year and spent a while watching a gorgeous marsh harrier at closer range than I've ever had. Shame it's raining today...

It was a relief to see they'd dropped the speed limit on Wrynose to 30mph while there were roadworks 😆

Herdwick. The finest of sheep. And Dow Crags are pretty good too.

I think this might have to become A Thing. Development of my boy, with one of the best lumps of rock and water I know. 2011, 2020 and 2024
A rugged cliff with water in front, and a heavily pregnant woman in white shirt and black leggings in front of the water.A rugged cliff with water in front, and a small child in a stripy blue and green shirt and red woolly hat in front of the water.A rugged cliff with water and a low stone wall in front. Whoever coded the cat got its collision with walls wrong. Can't believe we're in the 21st century and getting such basic software errors still.

Given you're letting whole albums in... "English Rebel Songs 1381-1914" by Chumbawamba is a fantastic musical tour through English rebellion. Very singable *and* educational (and don't make assumptions if the only Chumba song you know is Tubthumping!)

A friend and I have a game of "guess the cairn". When one of us is in the Lakes we send the other a photo of a cairn (or trig point) and the other has to guess which fell it's on. I was proud of getting this one first guess.

Been cleaning up my father's old watercolor set "Winsor and Newton Box No C20" containing such esoteric colours as Green Bice and Gamboge Tint.
