it's good to see this laid out clearly, but i'm once again going to point to Peter Naur's 1985 essay "Programming as Theory Building"

The present discussion is a contribution to the understanding of what programming is. It suggests that programming properly should be regarded as an activity by which the programmers form or achieve a certain kind of insight, a theory, of the matters at hand. A highlight was a fight against the sand snakes, as if they’d hired people that couldn’t fight. But they were all super talented stunt women. It was something else (direction, prep, something) that broke, and kept breaking from then on.

Maybe I was simply enamored by Pedro pascal but s4 was still pretty good. And I think it was more than just the writing. Scenes, shots, and stunts are started to look bad. Off putting.

It's the basic answer but Game of Thrones, though I'd pin the fall-off a little earlier than "the last season". The stuff in Dorne (s5?6?) was badly staged and shot in a way I didn't have the vocabulary to express, but it's still burned into my mind. The rest of the show soon caught 'down' similarly

The steam machine in desktop mode with ublock origin has helped with YouTube, too. Podcasts are where I get hit most. I can’t sub to everyone and the free versions have randomly inserted ads…

Few enough they still jump scare me. I turned off the advanced option in discord to remove them. I mark to block any in YouTube if they do show up, and I end up paying for shows, music, etc to try and avoid ads at all. iTunes, Apple Music, Blu-ray’s, etc.
