Bizarre... 1. PQs share of vote has been getting smaller and smaller every time they win an election. 2. Stephen Harper's work in building a Cons mvment in Qc City is bearing fruit with PCQ winning seats there, and given the state of the CPC potential MPs might focus in the province.

JLM est catastrophique dans tout ce qui touche la politique internationale (et pas très mieux en interne). Jean-Luc Mélenchon is always abysmal on his handling in foreign affairs (not that he's much better elsewhere), but he's particularly incoherent when it comes to the issue of Quebec separatism.

The situation in France is rather bleak because of its presidential system. Mélenchon would IMO be a disaster for France. So would Le Pen, or Retailleau (although not really a concern).

My read in Germany is that CDU/CSU voters can live with SPD govt and vice-versa, and SPD can live with Die Linke, etc. Italy politics historically involves coalitions. In the UK, Lib Dems can live with a Labour or a Tory gov't. Greens can live with a Labour gov't.

Ok but these things don't happen in a vacuum, and I would expect more backlash among Quebecers in using the clause than we have seen among Albertans towards Smith. And at least Quebecers are pretty fluid in their voting habits, which is more than we can say about Albertans.

That's also my belief. I get why people are nervous about a referendum, but we know from polls (who by the way seem to have performed pretty well with the election results so far) that it's unpopular.
