Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 02/10/2026A rather remarkable diagram from the Department of Energy via @lloydalter.bsky.social's newsletter this morning. 2/3 of all energy produced is WASTED! doesn't get used. mostly turns into heat or exhaust. 020
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 28/09/2026And the trucks in other world cities are better-designed for urban environments. No giant hoods blocking driver visibility, side guards by default, etc. Random example from Tokyo. Still can get heavy work done but without killing and maiming innocent people.... 041
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 24/06/2026With a margin of 13(!) votes, the race in Assembly District 30 is way too close to call, and likely headed for a recount. No matter the winner, I am extremely proud of Team Shamsul Haque, and the branding I designed for them. 030
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Proud to have worked with the teams of @eonforassembly.bsky.social, @phara4assembly.bsky.social, @jabaribrisport.bsky.social to design The Good Life Slate of Central Brooklyn. Looking forward to building The Good Life for all New Yorkers! 140
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 05/01/2026Doing some research for a new candidate client, and came across this remarkable ad from 1978. Why *do* the people with the least faith in New York have the loudest voices? 020
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 17/12/2025My first time seeing the complete (unrealized) plan for IM Pei's Crown Heights superblocks from 1969. I love how it doesn't just add park space, but threads new off-street connections. from www.archpaper.com/2025/12/plaz... 2235
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 05/12/2025And protected bike lanes on Greenpoint Av would connect with @nbkta.bsky.social's own plans for Brooklyn's section of Greenpoint Av. The short jaunt over Newtown Creek is made far longer by infrequent buses and streets that favor speeding trucks over people. We can fix this. 131
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 05/12/2025Over in Woodside, extending the 39th Av Bike Blvd would fix the weakest link in a chain of protected bike lanes that goes from the 59th St Bridge to Corona. Heading up the hill on 69th St towards Maspeth would provide a new transit option for a neighborhood that's a subway desert 120
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 05/12/202547th Av would build a new connection to LIC and destinations like LaGuardia Community College. Right now, it's a thruway with sharrows begging to be a neighborhood street. (See 31st Av for a great example of the transformation we imagine) 120
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 05/12/2025Honeywell St and 43rd St cross Sunnyside Yards, and are a hostile pedestrian environment with lots of speeding. 43rd St doesn't even have a sidewalk in places! Protected bike lanes would cement connections from Sunnyside to Astoria, two neighborhoods kept apart by bad 20th century planning. 120
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 05/12/2025It was my great pleasure to help @transalt.org Queens present our activist-led proposal for a protected bike lane network in Sunnyside and Woodside to Queens Community Board 2 last night. Trips to places like Astoria, Greenpoint, and Maspeth are fastest by bike, and we can make them safe. 391
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 26/11/2025What's makes this even more ridiculous is that there's a stretch of the Queens/Nassau border that doesn't even follow the street grid. Can you spot it? 010

Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 09/05/2025Some things of note: This project would actually DOUBLE the amount of parking on the site, with multiple 9-10 level parking garages. The garages themselves will almost be as tall as the main structure of Citi Field! 100
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 03/04/2025Hey @nyc.streetsblog.org, factually, this is not true.* And if we're practicing advocacy journalism, it's bad praxis to perpetuate a fatalist take that hurts our advocacy. Can we save our weltzschmerz hot takes for the substack, please? 100
Philip Leff @philipleff.bsky.social · 29/01/2025I think Paris does a particularly good job with this. The numbered exits are also a huge help for giving IRL directions. In general, I think MTA signs have poor typographic hierarchy and use of negative space... upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co... 030
