This came up in 2022 as well, not sure the point of rehashing it but unadjusted VAERS was the validation method, that wasn't going to be changed mid crisis and like others mention, there was a slew of different signal analysis. VAERS was and will always be the weakest one.

1. CDC isn't independent 2. This is hardly unprecedented, Pence forced many website changes. The real question will be if the eventual NVSS report will carry the asterisk. My gut says they will long forget this happened and only epidemiologists read these reports so it'll never be reported.
