Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 06/10/2026The worst way to onboard is "Baptism by fire" (i.e. here, jump in on a bunch of new shit. Hope you can keep up!) is a terrible way to onboard but it is also incredibly effective. 150
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Hmm, Baratza encore not grinding as well as it used to. Pour overs consistently rushing through the bed, meaning the grid is too coarse. I don't have the confidence to repair it myself, and the cost of repair + shipping is the price of a new grinder. Maybe I just find this one a new home 000
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Apparently, my mesh crapped out while I was on vacation. All 3 endpoints? Really google? 000
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Help, I am delayed in Athens drinking ouzo and lattes with like 6 books to read. Also, my steak is too juicy and my lobster too buttery. 171250

Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 01/10/2026There are like 10 phrases you need in Greece. And if you say them with a good enough Greek accent, you get free liquor 130
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Ah denied for CODE! No matter, I’ll just post on my blog. 050
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 29/09/2026CODE results are out but I am in Greece without access to work email. The suspense is awful 001

Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Man if it wasn’t for facism, this trip could have been paid for in USD. I hate how weak the loonie is compared to USD/Euro. And that Canadian salaries often lag American counterparts is another kick in the balls. 020
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I do have renewed appreciation for human struggle, whereas pre ai I might have appreciation for human achievement. Things hit different when you can’t prompt ai to do it better. 020
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Ok so living in the hills of Italy isn’t the thing I thought it might be. Professional tourist, also not great. Dude who drinks Italian wine before bed on the other hand… 131

Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Not to be all “I went to Europe and I am a changed man” but sometimes the struggle of human accomplishment is more admirable than the product. 151
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Ok fancy Italian restaurants have nothing on the Oteria. Fuck a Michelin star, man 010
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Being in a foreign country try is humbling because you have to reply on the kindness of people to do anything. 030
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Of all the AI features I really want, I just want to highlight text and make precise edits a la Cursor. 010
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 17/09/2026wait, how did you get that little caution tape on the line you're editing 140
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 17/09/2026We're going on vacation for 2 weeks, and all my shorts are packed. That means either unpack a few items, or don't go to the gym. Two of the worst options, frankly 030

Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 13/09/2026The perennial trilemma of quality, time, and cost. Assuming AI provides a high quality solution, the remaining choice is if you want it now or want it cheaply. 001
Demetri @phdemetri.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Hmmm, in that case I think it would depend on what the solution gives us. The spending is an explicit trade off for time. If time is not of the essence, I would say the struggle/time is more valuable. But if it were like the Covid vaccine, I might feel differently. Does that resonate? 120
