As we hung out, I worked on my book, my daughter did this: I finally finished this from a #crochet kit, all I really needed to do was make antlers and sew them and the ears on, but I wasn't able to finish this before today. My daughter made a crochet bee family which is really cute. Here's what she did: I made a little bee and a jumbo bee. I used chenille and a mix of acrylic yarns for the small bee and fluffy yarn for the big bee. I didn't have white fluffy yarn for the wings so I used blue instead. #crochet

I started with my best friend as an alpha reader. Back in 2017-2018, I was notable in a gaming community and had a lot of access to people willing to read my book. I've lost that. I also had a Facebook group. I traded reads over the years, joined a beta reader Discord, etc. It is harder now.

The dozens of beta readers for the 1st editions were really formative for me as a writer, so it's bigger than just about any particular book.

The best approach is probably to batch people reading your book until you get overwhelmingly positive reactions. With a consistent genre and tone, you'll need a lot less than that.

I've had feedback from over 100 people for different versions of my first book. At the same time, my book is cross genre, unconventional, with lots of moving pieces. The responses have been all the way from DNF chapter 1 to you've ruined books for me because I kept re-reading your book instead.
