This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.

This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.

Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.

Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.

Abolish ICE.

This Phrygian painted terracotta rhyton is in the shape of a sacrificial bull's head, and painted in laurel garlands, ceremonial bands, and ribbons. It was probably used in libation rituals. The form Persian rhyta made of metal, e.g. silver or gold.🏺 1/ 425-375 BCE. 📸 me #MuseoArqueológicoNacional
A rhyton (drinking/libation vessel) shaped like a bull's head. It is adorned with infulae (ceremonial bands), laurel branches, and vittae - ornaments associated with sacrificial rites - rendered in matte red and black paint that stand out against the white slip used to depict the animal's coat. This polychrome Phrygian rhyton was used in libation rituals to pour wine into a patera or phiale (libation bowls) through a small opening at the bottom of the vessel, corresponding to the animal's mouth.

Starting life as a fort. Corbridge was the most northerly town in the Roman Empire and one of only two on Hadrian’s Wall, the other being at Carlisle. The most famous finds include a hoard of Roman armour and other equipment and the stone Corbridge Lion #RomanFortThursday #RomanBritain #Archaeology
• First Forts (c. AD 77–105): The earliest military occupation started around AD 77–83 at the nearby Red House site, followed by a permanent timber-and-turf fort built around AD 87 at the critical junction of the Stanegate road and Dere Street, guarding the River Tyne crossing. This early fort was destroyed by fire around AD 105 and subsequently rebuilt.

• Hadrian's Wall Era (AD 122 onwards): Located about 2.5 miles south of Hadrian's Wall, Corbridge lost its primary frontline defensive role after the Wall was built, though it continued to serve as a vital military supply and logistics hub.

• Transition to Town and Legionary Base (AD 160s–3rd Century): By the 160s AD, the military base was converted to support legions (such as Legions VI and XX), and a thriving civilian town (vicus) grew around it. It eventually developed into a self-governing administrative capital (civitas) and one of the most northerly urban settlements in the Roman Empire.

#AdoorableThursday In fact a false door, painted to left of tablinum, in house of local #Pompeii official C. Giulius Polybius w early style facade. As in recent discoveries in the city, owner was in process of upgrading 2C BC property, hence amphorae + heap of lime piled in the corner. #Roman 🏺
A painted door, included in the layout of the tablinium for symmetry. It's actually plaster, showing four panels within a red and white doorframe.
The four panels have the appearance of being on two doors, white with red borders bounded by darker outlines, and three circles on the section dividing upper and lower panels on each one.
A heap of building material and some broken amphorae are shown to the left of the false door.A view showing the layout of the tablinium and the painted false door. The room has white painted walls with a red border at the top, a large entrance through the facing wall leading to other parts of the site. The painted false door is to the left of this, and an empty doorway is on the right - clearly intended to hold a 'real' door.
Remains of an upper level are also evident, with five window openings in the wall over the doors/entrance.

Black text on white background
"This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss.

The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes.

Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment.

To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity."

The Colima culture was a prominent pre-Columbian society in western Mexico that flourished roughly from 300 BCE to 600 CE.
Thrived in the fertile valleys and coastal plains of the modern Mexican state of Colima and surrounding areas.
Roots trace back to the early Capacha culture (around 1500 BCE), with its main artistic peak occurring during the Late Pre-Classic and Classic periods (300 BCE – 600 CE).
Known for deep, bottle-shaped underground burial chambers containing rich ceramic grave goods meant to accompany the dead.
Famous for expressive, smooth redware and burnished terracotta effigies of hairless dogs (Xoloitzcuintli), which were believed to guide souls to the underworld.
