Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 12/10/2026After a month or so back on Twitter, this place seems incredibly dull. And now with UA bombing Yandex, the nimber of Russian trolls seems rather minimal too! 000
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 17/09/2026But recently someone on X said they took Hengel's view to be that they were added by someone else (a copyist?) early on in the transmission. Any thoughts? 000

Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 17/09/2026How do you read Hengel's remarks on the origins of the Gospel titles? I've always taken Hengel to regard Mark's title at least as authorial ('geht auf Markus zurück'). And Baum comes very close in his reading of Hengel too. 100
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 08/09/2026This may be a big ask but does anyone have PDFs of Müller-Kessler & Sokoloff CCPA vols 1–3 (Gronigen 1997–8)? Many thanks in advance! 022
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 08/09/2026I'm also quite busy but fine, thanks for asking. We've just returned from a wonderful month in Cambridge (Tyndale House), which proved very 'erholsam' to my soul at many levels. 010
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Who are some of the more recent prominent proponents of the Pauline authorship of Eph? Honest question (coming from a conservative, though that shouldn’t matter)! 110
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Ukraine has had to ground all passenger flight since Feb 2022. Maybe Russia, the aggressor here, should take some responsibility and do the same? 010

Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Anyone with a recent-ish experience with ZAC? Wondering what their turnaround (submission-decision) is like these days. 000
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 23/08/2026After a week back on Twitter, my first impression is that the engagement there is considerably greater, though most of the academics from my ‘bubble’ are no longer active or have deleted their accounts downright. Yet the quietness of this space, while gloriously lacking in toxicity, depresses me. 010
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 22/08/2026And now some of these super-reliable AI detection apps also offer to 'humanise' your text. Way to go, robots! 010
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 22/08/2026I repeated the experiment with longer chunks of texts, using Pangram again. So, I pasted the paragraph that was initially flagged as 100% AI along with four preceding paragraphs, effectively quadroupling the amount of text. The result was 100% human. 000
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 22/08/2026It flagged much less and some of what it flagged were references to secondary literature and Greek quotations. So strange! 110
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 22/08/2026P.S. Most of this experiment was conducted using Pangram, followed by Grammarly. I then tried analysing the same text using ZeroGPT, which yielded results which were pretty much totally at odds with the previous two. 100
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Could this be because academic writing can generally be quite sterile? Would something less formal, artsy or journalistic prove more suitable for testing? 100
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 22/08/2026I pasted several paragraphs which were 100% AI in origin and indeed it was quite common to see 50-50 detection. 100
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 22/08/2026False positives were surprisingly frequent, so that in two cases paragraphs that were 100% human-written were flagged as 100% AI. I was expecting false negatives to occur more frequently, and they did: 100
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 22/08/2026I've recently experimented with Pangram AI detection software and, having worked with around 2000 words of academic text (too small a sample, admittedly) I'm not entirely confident in its detection capabilities. 110
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 22/08/2026They really don’t. I recently did a little experiment with Pangram and some others and was disillusioned with the results. 030
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 15/08/2026I’m back. Just re-followed you with my new account 010
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 13/08/2026I think I’ve found (inadvertently) a way to cite one of the Paddington bear books in an academic work. I can’t say I’m displeased. 040
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 11/08/2026I have been less active too, as my posts seem to be getting little engagement – much less, I must say, than they did in the Twitter-sphere! 010
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 11/08/2026I deleted my old account, so I’d have to start from scratch. Probably not worth it? I really don’t know at this point. 100
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 11/08/2026I think people just gave up as most folk stayed on Twitter. I left Twitter when it went crazy but am really at a loss now. 000
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 11/08/2026I’m seriously considering returning to Twitter. This place is as dead as the Slovak economy. 440
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 07/08/2026That day when you find out the list of plates in your article is, well, just a list of plates (without any plates included). #proofs #gottacatchemall 100
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Anyone with a recent experience with ZAC? What was the turnaround in your case? 000
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 23/07/2026On 3 August, I'll give a short paper at the Vacation Term for Biblical Studies in Cambridge, followed by a brief drinks reception. Hope to see some of you there! 000
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Today, my ISBTF email account was deleted—another telltale sign that Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal is shutting down. Very sad to see a school that the Gestapo was unable to break fall victim to church politics and economy. Religious apathy is more lethal than persecution. 010
Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 03/07/2026Just started reading Mistborn and I’m already hooked. Thanks so much for the recommendation! 110

Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 17/06/2026A brilliant, if harrowing, op-ed from a seasoned geologist called 'How scientometry is killing science'. Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 15/06/2026I don't like posing a positive example (quite the contrary), but, despite a few failures, I always try to deliver peer-review within 1 month of accepting, ideally much sooner (i.e. under a week). I hate protracted periods of waiting for a decision and this is the least I can do to improve things. 030

Peter Malik @petrosmalik.bsky.social · 08/04/2026Three months ago, I submitted to JBL. Normally, by this time an editorial manager website would go something like 'Decision pending' or, at least, 'Awaiting reviewer reports'. On JBL website, however, it's been 'Under review' from Day 1. The suspense is killin' me! 010
