Yeah, the revealing part for me was that she rationalized the choice of sending her kid to the neighborhood school by saying “we can get tutoring” and then apparently not getting her daughter tutoring.

Back in 1981, Blue Peter, Britain’s flagship kids show, did several episodes on Joey Deacon, a man with severe cerebral palsy who had become a powerful advocate for disability rights. The hope was to encourage children to see past appearances and understand disability better.

I want to expand on this in a short thread. Fascism sucks. It is also not going away: it is an effectively permanent part of modern representative politics because it is an effectively permanent part of human nature. We have to be prepared to push back against it, basically forever.

I know a lot of people need to hear this You know how you want the Ds to start investigations the second they’re in power? Part of making those investigations as strong as possible is sending the “strongly worded letters” now. We need the paper trail so stop shitting on it.

This is very true. The house I grew up in was a ~1200 square foot 3-bedroom ranch with a single bathroom. My parents had one car (a 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 during the period we're talking about) but added a Ford Pinto as a second car once my mom went back to work. No garage.

Tom Nichols: We're being governed by a bunch of juveniles who think war is some kind of fist-pumping video game. I can tell you taught hundreds of military officers over the years, they take this business a lot more seriously. This isn't just B-roll footage from a bad movie.

It is not up to the armed forces to put a stop to Trump’s ghastly ideas of war against NATO. The United States is not run by the military, nor should it be. Americans, and their elected representatives, must take this burden away from the armed forces—now. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

The National Science Foundation sign on our Eisenhower Av building is now gone. The NSF mural in the foyer is removed and torn off in sheets. We were supposed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the agency in May 2025. That never happened.

We had a system where we would buy shit from our allies, and it was fabulous because we had more money than anyone so we could have whatever we wanted and allies looked over a lot of shit that they probably should not have because everyone likes money.
