Visit to Coton Orchard including the Sycamore Gap tree. I am disappointed that Government has given go-ahead to Camborne2Cambridge busway route which will decimate the orchard. CPPF proposed a much cheaper and environmental alternative route but this was ignored. @cambsgreenparty.bsky.social

The fallout from the collapse of this glacier - a torrent of mud surging down the valley - killed hundreds of people. Gone, in a flash. Those people were wiped out by anthropogenic climate change. Our governments are simply not responding quickly enough to this disaster which is already upon us.

My letter in today's @thetimes.com In the #ClimateEmergency and #NatureCrisis the #NaturesRightsBill is essential not just for #biodiversity, but also human wellbeing #NaturesRights #OneHealth
Sir, Jenni Russell rightly highlights an under-recognised effect of the new conditions brought to Britain by the climate emergency: “a silent nature apocalypse”. Her exhortation to Times readers to do what they can individually in supplying food and water is welcome, but we clearly need large-scale systemic change, as represented in my private member’s Nature’s Rights Bill that was debated in the House of Lords in July.
The moral arguments for nature’s rights within an integrated rights framework are strong; but as Russell hints, such rights can also be argued for from a basis of human self-interest. The economy — our society — survives and flourishes only within the framework of a flourishing nature world. There are no jobs on a dead planet, and no food security in the conditions we are already facing.
