This was actually available 10 days ago but is only getting emailed out now. Working group folks only heard through the grapevine. It will be reviewed at committee in 6 days and then council the week after. There is no clarity and new limits regarding commenting in public. #process

Now reading “The Pushcart War” by Jean Merrill, first published 1964…
Chapter 1 starts: “ the Pushcart War started on the afternoon of March 15, 2026 when a truck ran down a pushcart belonging to a flower peddler…”

Summons by Aurora Levins Morales via Kelly McD #poetry #meetMe #LetsGo #bringingBandages “we have sent this dream, like a flock of doves into the sleep of the world. Wake up.”
- Summons -
by Aurora Levins Morales
Last night I dreamed
ten thousand grandmothers from the twelve hundred corners of the earth
walked out into the gap
one breath deep
between the bullet and the flesh
between the bomb and the family.
They told me we cannot wait for governments.
There are no peacekeepers boarding planes.
There are no leaders who dare to say every life is precious, so it will have to be us.
They said we will cup our hands around each heart.
We will sing the earth’s song, the song of water,
a song so beautiful that vengeance will turn to weeping,
the mourners will embrace, and grief replace
every impulse toward harm.
Ten thousand is not enough, they said,
so, we have sent this dream, like a flock of doves
into the sleep of the world.
Wake up.
Put on your shoes.
You who are reading this, I am bringing bandages
and a bag of scented guavas from my trees. I think
I remember the tune. Meet me at the corner.
Let’s go.

#Ptbo too. See 🧵 above this reply. #activetransportation gets imagined as a recreational / fitness activity by #motonormative snow clearing staff. So #lowpriority. #cycle infrastructure waits days for treatment then…
Large (overly) equipment clearing car free intersection on bicycle priority street. This was happening during rush 15-minutes and may have increased existing animosity of drivers due to blockage created. The planter boxes at the intersection have been knocked out of position by the large snow removal equipment.

Many times, over years to Jackson Park in #Ptbo. This year I moved so now there are trails created in Inverlea Park which is out my front door. Just earlier today I explained the technique to someone who moved in to the old ‘hood.

It took quite a while to plow the sidewalks and when they did (northbound on east side of George) the plow lifted its blade to avoid pushing snow onto the road. Intersection after intersection inaccessible to people on wheels but the cars/trucks are fine…

Expropriation… so a few people will go from 3.2-4.4 parking spaces down to 2.2-3.4 spaces for their car. Car owners are so greedy. Oak trees only get one parking space that they use for their full lifetime. Acorns, squirrel drays, raccoon hollows included for free.

Responsive service from @cityptbo.bsky.social. Last Thursday I reported an errant Parking sign on Bethune St between Hunter and Simcoe. Yesterday I noticed it had been removed.
Photograph from Bethune St looking southwest toward basketball courts in Bethune and Simcoe park. Utility pole has a Parking sign that persists from before Bethune St redesign into a bicycle priority street. Sign was many feet from new edge of road. Photograph from Bethune St looking southwest toward basketball courts in Bethune and Simcoe park. Utility pole has no signage where a legacy Parking sign was a few days before. Bethune St was redesign as a bicycle priority street with narrow lanes and no on-street parking.

You’re a project “making an opportunity for” community input. In #Ptbo, Cottage country. Your input window is 2 months in July/August. You told the Safe Streets for Everyone summit in April it was too early to design. Tell me you don’t actually want input. www.connectptbo.ca/rotary-trail...

Locally #Ptbo we have a bike priority street: Bethune. It includes vehicle turn arounds for cars that accidentally end up at a “no entry - bicycles excepted” intersections. South of Charlotte St people are parking in the circle. Saw a car struggling Sunday. Today a ticket issued. Good!
A ticketed SUV parked in a vehicle turning circle on Bethune St immediately south of Charlotte St. This part of the turning circle is often full of up to 5 cars thinking they are getting free vehicle storage in public space. Ticket them regularly!

What a difference 90 minutes makes. Also compare to 9:16am post earlier today. Once water starts flowing it creates a path.
Water going under ice at 2:53Water has melted the ice and now has an open path for almost all the flow. It took 24 hours to get to open flow. This time yesterday it was just cresting into the intake and wasn’t getting past the ice at all.

Monday morning. Maybe 24/7 Public Works will visit today but time has, to some degree, solved the problem. Water is still above the intake level and most of it is finding its way under the ice. When that ice/wood debris jam came down the creek it must have been something to see!
The intake of the Bethune bypass now taking most of the water that’s flowing over the wall. The water must have found/made a path under the ice. Should a path have been mechanically cleared so all overflow made it?This is the third view from the same vantage point of the Bethune creek bypass intake. This one shows the intake corner underwater and you can see the event yesterday afternoon pushed we previous ice back about 8’ while also filling the intake with several feet of ice chunks and wood.

By 6:45pm there’s a lot more fresh ice deposited. Looks like material delivered by the flow. The water must have become quite high for this to have happened!

Watch the leaf debris in the water by the snow/ice. You can see that even though water is above intake wall level it is blocked by an ice dam. The Bethune diversion is not working as designed because the intake was not cleared for spring runoff @cityptbo.bsky.social #Ptbo

Mark Woolley @perspicuity.bsky.social · 16/03/2025
So… #Ptbo tore up Bethune St, built a diversion to protect downtown from Jackson Creek overflow for $$&, but apparently don’t have an operation plan regarding spring runoff intake.
Photo showing Jackson Creek overtopping intake ledge but not flowing under Bethune due to ice. Identical shot as in first post but now water should be going into Bethune diversion. It’s not.

Could a #walkSafe campaign also address the supper dark tinted window issue? There are cars driving around #Ptbo with windows so tinted that I, a pedestrian / cyclist, can’t make eye contact. That’s a safety threat to me. I assume it’s another unenforced infraction, like casual speeding and idling

I wonder which of these reactions I should have used when a driver recklessly chased me from Antrim & Water to Bethune & McDonnell. (“my fault” since I had hand signalled him that he was speeding on Water) He chased a cyclist with a car through a residential neighbourhood.

Actually, checking your work, @trikebum.bsky.social this comment is by the OPP inspector who exposes himself as a #carbrain. Motorists distracted by a cellphone are the threat.
Quote from OPP inspector that demonstrates outdated thinking about crosswalks (and probably jaywalking too) but particularly tells pedestrians to avoid distractions like cellphones and headphones. Victim blaming at its finest - can the F150 driver have their stereo cranked and be rocking out? Who has to be vigilant in these instructions?
