Watching Real Genius for the first time in forever. Still think this is my favorite joke in the whole movie.
Screengrab of the movie Real Genius. It shows a Computer screen with repeated attempts to enter a password and getting denied. The passwords entered are "AAAAAD" "AAAAAE" and the closed caption reads "these military are so untrusting"

QIS postdoc wanted! Thanks to some news I received this week I am anticipating hiring a postdoctoral researcher in the near future to work on a Quantum Information Science and Technology education project. While we await the final grant paperwork I’d like to get started on identifying candidates.

Request for QC-type folks: I'm teaching Quantum Optics/ Quantum Information to Jr/Sr undergrads, and asking students to do research papers/ presentations. I would like to be able to point them toward some quantum algorithms sorts of things that I won't cover in class; what should I suggest?

Amazing to see the work of @itsmealeale.bsky.social and Partyk L Bartosik highlighted like this. Having followed it as it was written and knowing the hard work that was poured into it, really brings a smile to one's face to see it highlighted. Yes to detecting entanglement using thermodynamics!

Today for shits and giggles, I took a BNC cable Jerry-rigged a loop out of it and plugged it into a scope to see what I'd pick up in my lab. What the hell would cause this? Like a clock, every 4 seconds jumps amplitude. The underlying signal is ~171 kHz #noise #science
An oscilloscope screen showing a signal that goes back and forth between a 1 mV amplitude to a 2.5 mV amplitude every 4 seconds.

#quantum mechanics class had fun measuring single-photon interference today! We got some of the @thorlabs.bsky.social quantum optics kits through a grant earlier this year. Considering I previously had 0 experience with optics, how easy we were able to successfully setup two kits makes me happy.
