considering this is has been ongoing for years, I'll answer: someone who does not take criticism coming from his left well www.reddit.com/r/Hasan_Pike...
 Why does Hasan have to refer to people he disagrees with as "mentally ill", "schizophrenic", etc? I have bipolar with psychotic features. I have been in psychiatric units and seen the violence inflicted on people in active psychosis. All of my relationships are impacted by the stigma on severe mental illness. Do you think the things Hasan says have a positive impact on that stigma? No. So why do I have to wince several times a video when I want to catch up on the latest Palestine or American politics news?

Don't say "you could just stop watching." That's the same logic Hasan argues against when people say if you don't like America, go back to Turkey. I don't want to watch someone else. I want to watch Hasan. He's funny, he's smart, he cares about people. What's wrong with asking for a little change, especially when he's already an activist. I think more people would be drawn to his content if he wasn't so aggro on the ableism.

And "libt*rd" is just a cowardly way of getting around the R slur while saying the same thing. Say it with your chest and show people your true colors or don't say anything like that at all.

Thanks for letting me get this out of my brain. I'm a fan of Hasan which is why this has been bugging me so damn much.

who, or what he is to you, depends on your views of "leftism" and disability justice
@michaelmoran
You may think calling people “neurotic,” “narcissistic,” “difficult,” “dependent,” or “wreckers” is nonspecific, but none of those ideas exist in a vacuum. Disabled people have always been disparaged as irrational, burdensome, demanding, disruptive, socially defective, and a menace to society. You don’t have to say “disabled people” to revive an ableist trope. That’s how tropes work.I get that your “liberatory” politics were assembled from the DSM-I, a human zoo, your uncle’s Facebook feed, a Jacobin tote bag, and a phrenology model, but you’re going to need thicker skin if you need witness protection every time someone calls you “ableist.”

And calling everyone else narcissistic while recasting yourself as the victim of reverse-ableism in a Passion of the Christ-inspired Twitter thread isn’t helping your cause.

Your cause: liberation through everybody just being normal enough that bigots run out of material.You cannot have Disability Justice without Abolition and Intersectionality or vice versa.

Intersectionality helps us identify structural harm: ableism, racism, white supremacy, coercion, exploitation, and other forms of oppression. Disability justice keeps us from pathologizing difference itself as dangerous - making room for bodies, minds, behaviors, and needs outside the norm. Abolition keeps us from turning real harm into a justification for vengeance, abandonment, punishment, or social death.

All three are necessary because the task is twofold: make room for human difference without excusing oppression, and confront harm without making people disposable. A person can cause real harm regardless of intent, and the person on the receiving end gets to name its impact. That harm may require accountability, boundaries, repair, or even separation. But accountability is not the same thing as punishment, and harm is not permission to throw a human being away.

All this is to say that you cannot effectively practice Disability Justice, Abolition, nor Intersectionality without the others without practicing some for of exclusionary version that perpetuates systemic harm."Since disabled BIPOC are incarcerated at rates significantly higher than other populations, we need to always include race in our analysis of disability. Ableism and white supremacy are so intertwined it is impossible to tease them apart."

"For inhibiting histamine-induced NF-κB activation: desloratadine > cetirizine > pyrilamine > loratadine > fexofenadine."
@manruipa
25/35

In one cellular model, several H1 antihistamines reduced both basal H1-dependent NF-κB activity and the additional increase caused by histamine.

There were clear differences in potency. For reducing basal signalling:

desloratadine > pyrilamine > cetirizine > loratadine > fexofenadine.

For inhibiting histamine-induced NF-κB activation:

desloratadine > cetirizine > pyrilamine > loratadine > fexofenadine.

So this effect is not unique to desloratadine, although desloratadine was the most potent of the drugs compared in that model.

This is interesting because NF-κB regulates many genes involved in inflammation, including cytokines, chemokines and adhesion molecules. Some H1 antihistamines could therefore potentially do more than reduce the immediate effects of histamine: they may also reduce part of H1-dependent inflammatory signalling.

But the level of evidence matters. This was a cellular model, and it does not prove that desloratadine is clinically superior to other H1 antihistamines in Long COVID, ME/CFS or autoimmune disease.

H1 blockers may also affect inflammation through NF-κB "Desloratadine inhibits constitutive and histamine-stimulated nuclear factor-kappaB activity consistent with inverse agonism at the histamine H1 Receptor " pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38953634/
@manruipa
24/35

And here is another interesting feature of H1 antihistamines that goes beyond simply preventing histamine from binding to the receptor.

The H1 receptor has some constitutive activity: it can maintain intracellular signalling even in the absence of histamine.

One pathway it can activate is NF-κB, a major regulator of inflammatory gene transcription.

Many H1 antihistamines actually behave as inverse agonists. That means they do not merely prevent histamine from activating H1; they also stabilise the receptor in a less active state and can reduce some of its basal signalling.

H1 blockers may help reduce infections somehow "The histamine receptor H1 acts as an alternative receptor for SARS-CoV-2" pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38953634/
16/35

There is even another curious experimental connection.

A 2024 study described the H1 receptor as a potential alternative factor related to SARS-CoV-2 entry and found that several H1 antagonists reduced infection in experimental models.

That does not prove this is why some people with Long COVID improve on antihistamines.

But it is a useful reminder that a drug we classify as an “antihistamine” may have biological consequences extending beyond simply blocking an allergic reaction.

H2 blockers like famotidine and loratadine used in Long Covid can improve some cognitive and neuropsychiatric measures and an additional reduction of approximately 1.48 points on the Fatigue Assessment Scale. But long term, H2 blockers affect stomach acid production, B12 absorption and gut biome.
@manruipa
14/35

Famotidine alone has also been studied.

In a randomised trial of 50 patients with post-COVID cognitive impairment, 12 weeks of treatment was associated with improvement in some cognitive and neuropsychiatric measures.

And in 2026 came STIMULATE-ICP, a large multisite, open-label randomised controlled trial.

The pharmacological trial included 778 people with Long COVID. Of these, 193 received famotidine 40 mg + loratadine 10 mg daily for 12 weeks.

The combination produced an additional reduction of approximately 1.48 points on the Fatigue Assessment Scale compared with receiving no study drug.

The difference was statistically significant but small, and 12 weeks after treatment ended, the difference between groups was no longer significant.

"A tissue focus capable of maintaining or replenishing viral RNA and proteins could provide antigenic stimulation for months or years without causing major viraemia." One infection can burden you for years. Multiple, repeated infections? For the rest of your(shorter than expected) life.
@manruipa
10/35

So I do not think the most useful distinction is simply:

“reservoir” vs “debris.”

There is growing evidence that, at least in some patients, viral material is maintained inside tissues for extraordinarily long periods.

The more interesting question becomes what is happening inside that reservoir: whether there is continuous low-level replication, intermittent activity, transcription and antigen production without completion of every viral replication cycle, or specific cell types that allow persistence.

Demonstrating any of these is not the same as demonstrating abundant continuous production of fully infectious virions.

But immunologically, that may not even be necessary.

A tissue focus capable of maintaining or replenishing viral RNA and proteins could provide antigenic stimulation for months or years without causing major viraemia.
