Alphinaud in post-HW learned about some events of 30-50 DRK, and in confronting her about it got berated, hard. It was a reckoning for how he treated her in the past, particularly ARR. But their recent time together shaped how they both handled it, and they came out closer for it. #GrayflameLore

QotD so good I had to come back to write a scenario for it. Light 7.0 Spoilers When those you love can no longer remember you, and you've been replaced by someone else... Peridot made desperately searching out Lamaty'i the first thing she did after realizing the Scions couldn't remember her.

Light 7.0 Spoilers:

"Lamaty'i! Oh thank the gods."

Wuk Lamat turns to face where she was just called from the crowd. A strange look on her face.

"Please, you remember right? Everyone has been so strange."

She returns only a look of confusion. "I'm sorry… but have we met somewhere?"

Her words grab the wound in Peridot's heart and begin to pull it apart.

She doesn't remember.

"Lamaty'i… it's Peridot, please you have to remember…"

A look of recognition. "Peridot!"

Peridot smiles and begins to relax. Of course Lamaty'i would remem-

"You must be from Solution Nine! Listen, I know you must have overheard the name and mean well, but that name is only for my family. Please, call me Wuk Lamat."

Claws grab the wound now, digging deep in the flesh, the wound begging for it to end.

Peridot desperately searches her mind for some way, for some thing that could prove to her partner who she is, that no one else could be. And her mind finds an answer.

She reaches into her bag and produces from it the stone tablet Lamaty'i gave her, her greatest gift to commemorate her time in Tural. Carved to represent all the peoples of the land, one of a kind, and commissioned by Lamaty'i just for her.

"Please Lamaty'i, look at this. Surely something in you remembers giving this to me. Even if you can't remember you must know the signif-"

Lamaty'i takes her right hand behind her back as she growls an accusation. "How did you get that from Hiroshi?" That hand now grips her axe, and she brings it to bear in front of her. "What did you do to him!?"

The wound is ripped apart, and whatever was left of Peridot is shattered.

Oh, absolutely *break* her. The Scions are her found family, and beyond that she only met Lamaty'i because of being the WoL, so a partner would no longer know her. And who knows how many other connections only happened because of it? She's now effectively a lone stranger with nothing and no one.

It's an interesting experience trying to tell the story of a character that's changed so much over the course of the msq. I want everyone to see and know and love who she is today, but I also think her early story is necessary to truly do so too. So I'll be trying to work through that balance.

Estinien asks the question they are all thinking. "Any plans?"

Story Snippet:

Light now being shed from the brazier, she turns and begins to look over her surroundings. Various rocks with inscriptions line the outside of the cave, making a ring of sorts along the walls. The rocks, epitaphs. The cave, a tomb. The brazier placed in the center a traditional fixture of Miqo'te burial sites. This is the cave she was searching for.

Many other Miqo'te tribes have similar practices. Dead arranged in a ring or along the walls, and ornamental braziers maintained for light and a ritualism all their own. Results of their shared ancestry, one would imagine. She has even seen similar in the rites in Tural, though they practiced open-air scaffold burials.

But this brazier has not been maintained in years. And as she reflects on this, she comes to an understanding. Would maintaining it have been anyone's job, it would have likely been her own. A duty to the dead she has neglected for well over a decade now. "Better late than never" she muses to herself.

She picks up the knife she'd previously cleaned to cut it with. Double checking the grain of it before doing so. Always cut against the grain, a good cut can do wonders to enhance nature's gifts. A lesson from her dad. Not her birth father, of course. But in her eyes, that only made the man all the better for that role.
