I didn't really get into it, but masks and blend modes become extremely powerful with G'MIC. You can blend the results of a filter in to the original image, either spatially so that the filter affects a region of the picture, or by blending into high or low values, into particular hues, etc.

For some styles, G'MIC should simply be your first port of call. If your whole project is meant to have a 90s VHS look, then you'll be putting the VHS filter on every image. Similarly for filters like ghost, Dorure Gilding, CRT phosphors, stained glass, oldschool 8bits, wiremap, and old photograph.

Ghost filter creates a supernatural black and white look.

Dorure gilding filter creates a burnished metal look.

Wiremap filter (works best with simpler images with central individual subjects).

Old photograph filter. Sepia tone, grain, and noise.

Psuedo-roguelike where the map is fixed, but the definitions of the fantasy vocabulary and rules jargon are randomised per run. You know there will always be five goblins behind that door, but what does the game think a "goblin" is this time? The lead goblin always has a "sword +3", but +3 to what?
