Big day for me today. I took first place in the Men’s 45+ Debaets-Devos crit race. Winning means I’m the Michigan state champ!! I raced smart and got in a breakaway with a person from the largest team. We held off the field, and I took it in the end!

Do I love all of Jocelyn Benson’s policies and positions? Absolutely not. Will I vote for her in the general election? Absolutely. She will be much better than John Hames for Michigan. Making some ideological stance to not vote for her will make my life worse as a teacher.

Voting your conscience is bullshit. Voting should always be strategic.

History tells me that coalitions fail when they grow narrower and narrower, until at last they are very pure - and very ineffective. A perfectly pure, perfectly unified, perfectly tiny political party (think the libertarians), is, in the end, just a very opinionated book club - one that regularly loses elections, but with great moral satisfaction

Hard disagree. Voting is a collective action. You are treating it like an individual choice. Personally, I think El-Sayed is unprepared for the role of senator due to never holding an elected position. Should I have not voted for him? My conscience says no. Yet my vote said yes.

Those people I spoke with today. I want to be in a coalition with them. I voted for Abdul and want him to win. They are voting for Stevens. If I’m asking them to stay in the coalition if their candidate loses, it’s only fair if I stay in if my candidate loses.

I’m well aware that she has money. But how is that money being spent to buy the election? The election isn’t going be one-sided. If Stevens wins it will because working class people (amongst others) voted for her. Some will vote against her. If more vote for her, she wins.
