Really unfortunate news. Due to recent family issues I was forced to move out of my house. I'm staying with a friend atm. Money is real tight, donations would be incredibly helpful in this transitionary period, but if you can't afford to do that, sharing this would be incredibly helpful. Link below

important life hack for video games
With video game prices rising, AI is a critical tool for developers and gamers alike.

By seeing which games use AI, gamers can save money by not buying those games.

I personally hate leaks, especially for projects that tend to do things like special trailers or announcements. It just kills hype. Ex: Smash announcements had people with VASTLY different reactions based on whether or not they saw leaks. No leaks: Hype AF W/leaks: "oh, the leak was real" 😐

My favorite game is Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Not "favorite Tales of" game. Favorite game. I like what I like.

I now fear how convoluted and backwards the Windows 11 codebase is. Just because you *can* use something doesn't mean you *should*. For such an important thing like Windows, they should not have reached for a web dev tech stack.

I just learned that the windows 11 start menu is made in React Native. For those that don't know, that means they are making a web page and that is their start menu. The main "benefit" of using RN is for "cross platform usage". Where the f*ck else is the WINDOWS START MENU used.

Hey! If you use AI to make product photos and ads of your stuff I immediately think a) you’re broke (can’t pay a real person?) b) your product is cheap and untrustworthy (you have to fake it? How bad can the real thing be?) AND c) you suck lmao

JS people have processes and requirements in place that end up enforcing TS stuff without the compiler. TS people have an inherent distrust of the code others write. Two different experiences landing people on two different sides on an argument. Fascinating stuff.

An interesting exception: JavaScript vs TypeScript. The discussions are basically NEVER about the languages and are actually static typing vs dynamic typing. It's great because you see how vastly different the experiences are that leads one to be on one side over the other.

Favorite part of programming: the LANGUAGE vs LANGUAGE discussions. They're either genuine comparisons where you learn things, or absolute wastes of time where people who don't know sh*t about a language try to explain why it's bad. Either outcome is entertaining.

Also, if you're a programmer looking to have some of your world flipped, try looking into category theory and lambda calculus. On YouTube, 2swap and Gabriel Lebec (on Fullstack Academy) have great videos about lambda calculus. Category theory is hard to recommend just one.

I love seeing art posts where artists draw what inspired their style. It's like peeking into their history or timeline, and can show some wildly different sources.

i don't mind when ppl say "the way you draw X kinda reminds me of Y", bc the things we consume inspire our creative choices and i would love to talk to you if we find a shared interest through my art 😌 but it's a whole different thing to say "this is just Y". the way you say things really matter

"What about Fi-Core?" Fi-Core means a U member can do U and NU projects, but MUST pay dues and gets near fewer benefits (and Fi-Core in practice tends to make it harder to get U jobs).

Sherlock @pepperdetector.bsky.social · 06/04/2025
Further, once a NU person gains the exception, they are allowed to do U work for 30 days. After those 30 days they MUST join SAG-AFTRA, or they are not allowed to do work on U projects. Also, if they do join SAG-AFTRA, they cannot do ANY NU work.

Sherlock @pepperdetector.bsky.social · 06/04/2025
2) Let's talk TH exceptions! You ARE CORRECT that TH allows union (U) projects to hire non-union (NU) people, but the help stops there. When a U project hires a NU person, the project must prove that the NU actor fills a role that SAG can't.

1) I was target of mis-info on this one! Turns out, MANY CN game companies publish using an external company to avoid MANY CN issues. However, this does not change that MHY has a track record for being against AI both via contracts with anti-AI studios and disqualifying art contestants who used AI.

Sherlock @pepperdetector.bsky.social · 05/04/2025
All of these exclusivity clauses, their terms, and all terms around the "workarounds" can be read online. The contracts are either public or have been leaked and you can read them yourself.

Sherlock @pepperdetector.bsky.social · 05/04/2025
Mihoyo (ZZZ, HSR, etc) is Chinese, they have AI protections both in contract and LEGALLY. China has laws against AI that Mihoyo MUST follow. Supergiant didn't sign because they're both mostly non-union (devs) and NOT U.S.. SAG-AFTRA and its VAs have been hiding this exclusivity shit.
131 3
Sherlock @pepperdetector.bsky.social · 05/04/2025
Also, signing to be SAG-AFTRA costs at least $3000, and any way around it is just as bad if not worse. Further, not everyone wants to be in a union. Either due to not liking SAG-AFTRA (cuz they kinda do mobster shit), or just not being in the U.S. (unions are mostly just U.S.).
120 2
Sherlock @pepperdetector.bsky.social · 05/04/2025
@bellular.bsky.social Just saw your latest vid. SAG-AFTRA is hiding an exclusivity clause behind their AI protection clauses. A project that signs (be it interim or full) will become a union project and HAS TO SIGN ONLY UNION MEMBERS. Non-union has 30 days to sign or be replaced.

It's remarkable how some people just desire the worst for others without any prompt or anything. Apparently wanting others to be happy is just impossible for them and it blows my mind.

Hilariously enough, the main reason for the switch back wasn't eye strain. It's that a good number of light themes across terminal and neovim are just hard to read due to using lighter colors for text rather than properly contrasting things.

Tried switching things up by using light mode as a theme for everything. Switched back to dark mode.

I had to get my PC checked out due to it randomly dying. When the tech called to report on it and start wrap-up procedures, he asked "would you like us to update your pc to windows 11 for free?". It took effort to get my "no" out between laughs.

It's saddened me to see such a MASSIVE outpouring of love for BDX's work across social media, yet relatively small total donations to help his family through this tragedy. I get many requests to stream Sonic '06. I finally will on New Year's Day if it hits $5000. $7500 and I do it in one sitting.

I remember keeping my old gamecube on so I didn't lose progress while playing one of the zelda games in the collector's edition. Then a storm killed my gamecube. But I had a warranty! Then my parents used the warranty money to buy my brother an xbox. I'm still mad.

I'd love to see A.I. advanced for the right reasons (cancer detection, for example), but the current scene is just being pushed as a "magic money saver" with the only goal being to fuck over as many people's jobs as possible.
020 2
Sherlock @pepperdetector.bsky.social · 28/12/2024
And the hilarious part: it'd be cheaper to just hire people than use A.I. in the long run. It's dog shit at coding, and only barely passable in other areas. So the money you "save" using A.I. is just money spent elsewhere (for coding, it's code reviews).

As a dev, who sees both sides on the daily, I can pretty much answer why they say it can do what they say it can do: GREED. That's it. There are devs trying to advance AI for good causes, but they are drowned out by the people advancing it for greed.

Seen a few folks astonished by my lack of support for ChatGPT and similar. Because AI, right? Yeah, no. What we have right now is glorified autocorrect. Glorified autocorrect that takes the energy of an entire city to do what it does, plus half of Lake Erie to cool down while it's doing it.
