I just finished “Snake Eater” by T Kingfisher. Can confirm that if you move to a tiny town in the sticks, the (mostly senior) people will be VERY interested in you, and if you are polite and volunteer to help them, you get to hear some weird shit. It’s pretty great.

I’m going to turn this into a spell. It’s 2039. I’m 60 years old. I’ve lived in my tiny mountain town, in a literal cabin in the woods, for 15 years now. The pain is still there, but it hasn’t gotten worse. There are a couple of platonic life roommates, and an enormous garden.
