Can I make a confession? Among our board and our Friends, we're tired, frustrated. Some of us have been advocating for the same thing for 30 years, 40 years, even more. But we all do this work (as volunteers!) because we believe in its necessity. So we're going to keep going. Come with us.

We're asking City Council to add 276 one-shot lines, because Parks has suffered from four years of staffing cuts. But more broadly, NYC Parks is still recovering from the budget crisis of the 70s: they have never gotten back to those staffing levels, even as our need for parks has grown.
110
Friends of Pelham Bay Park @pelhambaypark.org · 09/06/2026
Advocates talk a lot about one-shot staffing lines, but those are jobs -- people! -- that need to be renewed every year. There's 115 positions that are not included in the current budget proposal: 115 friends and neighbors who will be unemployed in July. These lines should be baselined.

We're proud members of the Play Fair Coalition. You may know such hits as 1% for Parks, (though that's a call that has been happening for decades at this point, because while budget season is ephemeral, chronic disinvestment remains year round).
