Happy #taxonomistappreciationday! Taxonomy is the science that names and identifies species, forming the basis of communication in other fields of biology. My own expertise is in marine snails, especially the Turritellidae.
A variety of uncoiled turritellid snails from the genus Vermicularia. The snails have turreted points but then become tube-like. One is shown as a large reef mass.A variety of normally coiled turritellid snails of different sizes. The snails are high spired (pointy) and have different patterns of ribs and slightly different whorl shapes.
