Looking for #Mastodon server suggestions - safe for Queer, Trans, BIPOC folks. TIA.

Max Pearl @pearlbear.social.overlappingmagisteria.org.ap.brid.gy · 20/10/2024

I think I've sadly concluded that #mastodon and the #fediverse is kinda like the Linux desktop. It keeps getting better, but it still is only used by a relatively few people, and never makes it into the mainstream. I don't really know what might change that, but Xitter's demise certainly won't.

I've been a novel/a-length SF writer and have a solid diet of novel/a-length SF books. I want to write a lot more creative nonfiction and SF short stories, and I realize that means I need a steady diet of that kind of work. What are your favorite journals? #sciencefiction #CreativeNonfiction

just got a royalty statement for Your Linux Toolbox and apparently since it was published in 2019 I've made $14,707.16 in royalties, on 6,314 sales. So I guess around $2/sale on average. Not mad about it at all (my goal was to learn about how traditional […] [Original post on social.jvns.ca]

Do I like the corporate overlords in charge of the other options? God no. Sometimes I want to ditch social media altogether (and, frankly, just sticking to the #fediverse for my social media needs would have close to the same effect in relation to 90% of my social and "parasocial" relationships […]

I have been and am many things in the world, and as much as I would love to, I can't go all in on the #fediverse. Not enough people in the demographics that matter to me (writers, friends and family, embodiment/mindfulness community) are here. Not enough news or political organizations are here […]

I have to admit to some level of frustration regarding social media right now. In the "bad" old days, the difference between Twitter. Facebook, IG, and Linked-in we're super clear, and it was clear what kind of effort and content (whether personal or professional) you put in to them would lead […]

Really, #NaNoWriMo?! Saying that it is ableist and classist be against using a tool that STEALS OTHER WRITERS' WORK to make your own? It's ableist and classist to suggest that those marginalized groups need AI to write their novels! Until they disavow their new sponsor, I'm never doing […]

I'm a little behind (I was on retreat last weekend), but the bullying of #GusWalz by the right is 1) extremely on brand, and 2) reminds me again of how fucking inhumane they are. Part of me can't even grok how anyone can be that cruel.

@majorlinux I agree that the Dems are far too beholden to corporate interests. I completely agree that we need to do far, far more on climate. But, honestly, they are movable - for instance, they do want to overturn Citizens United, which would make a huge difference. We don't have any other […]

I've been thinking a lot about the Harris/Ealz (and other Dems) "politics of joy." On one hand, given all that is facing us, it seems, I don't know, polyannish or something. But then I realized that joy is the only real antidote to fear, which is what the GOP peddles, and the Dems had been […]
