What makes you think I believe he is Quaker? Haverford is a Quaker college. Rufus Jones, whose parents helped started the two Quaker schools in the Middle East, was on faculty at Haverford, where he started AFSC in 1917, in order to rebuild for peasants whose homes and businesses had been destroyed.

1. Write a plan based on NIH guidelines. I started, but I cant do it by myself. 2. Include in plan goals once opened with timeline, budget. 3. Include in plan how to divorce from Drexel. Their financial problems are their problems, ANSP needs the building, the specimens and method to pay debts.

Sir Hans Krebs worked in Freiburg after working with Otto Warburg (both Nobel laureates). Nazis fired him for being Jewish. In Freiburg he discovered the Urea Cycle, in 1980s I reported that mitochondrial carbonic anhydrase was involved. Krebs was in Sheffield where my mother was a young physician

My late husband was born to a Jewish woman in Nazi Germany in 1941, I always knew my children had Jewish connections. What surprised me was how opposed they were to living in Israel; they saw that as a betrayal. I always walked around the wall of the synagogue in Freiburg im Breisgau. Remembering.

I learned that my cousin Owen Tooth died in 1917 during the Battle for Jerusalem; his grave is in Israel. And another cousin Sybil Dodgson married Sir Lionel Montagu, cousin of Lord Samuel, UK politician involved in 1917 Balfour Declaration. Lord Samuel was 1st British Commissioner for Palestine

After the Napoleonic Wars and the destruction of the French (and Spanish) empires in the 19th Century, Frances was ready to sell off the Suez Canal. Lord Rothschild in the UK lent the UK government the millions needed, and the Suez Canal went to UK ownership. This happened in a day.

After October 7, 2023, I learned about Theodor Herzl, and his reaction to the Dreyfus affair in France, when a Jewish officer was wrongly accused. Theodor wrote a book, which I read, claiming the only way for Jews to survive was to build a homeland. Meanwhile, Jews were doing well in the UK.

When we recorded the Brummana High School principal's talk in 2023 he was on a fund-raising tour of the USA; after the collapse of Lebanese money, the school was threatened with closure.Brummana School principal visited Philadelphia in April 2025 to thank USAians for donations. youtu.be/ayhQsm40Lx4

After October 7, as Religious Education tried to remove our collective ignorance over what had happened, our leader organized talks with visitors to Palestine, and with the principal of Brummana High School, the second Quaker school in the region, in Lebanon, also formed in 1873.

The Sunday and Wednesday online meetings, and Religious Education were taken over by the "We believe USA and Israel" members of the meeting. Meanwhile the leader of Religious Education, who is Jewish, a life-long pacifist and not on either side, was forced out of the meeting and is now Buddhist.

On October 8, the PM of Israel called to eliminate Palestinians from Gaza. Meanwhile, online Quaker meetings became louder, dividing into two factions: one was "we believe USA government and Israel" and the other "theft of land, resources, and lives of Palestinians has been wrong since 1948".

I have been in Quaker circles since 1991, and knew of Ramallah Friends School in the West Bank. I was Religious Education online co-host at Arch St Friends, plus hosted a Wednesday online Meeting for Worship. On October 7, I joined Arch Street online, and we prayed for the Levant.

I am trained as a scientist to search for facts, and I decided the best way to start was to read only sources from Jewish academics and Jewish organizations. I found videos from Dr Norman Finkelstein, son of two Jewish Nazi torture survivors: he has long been writing about atrocities in the Levant.

October 7. A day that opened the gates of Hell, for all of us. In 2023 during Sunday Episcopalian Mass the priest told us that awful things were happening in Palestine and the Middle East. I didn't believe it; Israel had the Iron Dome and ended the 6-day war in 6 days. I went back home, to read.

When I arrived at UPenn physiology as postdoc in 1978 I was told my main task was to discover carbonic anhydrase in mitochondria and prove Nobel Laureate Peter Mitchell wrong. I did, and I didn't. Britten Chance desperately wanted a Nobel Prize; he lived well into his 90s, knew all the right people

Right! I remember that huge houses in West Philadelphia were being sold for hardly anything in the 1980s. Because they were too expensive to heat. That has to be true now, usually the inhabiters of huge houses are not users of solar. Maybe that will change.

Through my office window I am watching a megamansion be built on a tiny lot. A lovely house, where neighbors died, was torn down in 2.5 hours in July. Massive machines to tear down, and build. Pity they didn't hire Amish builders, far more efficient.

Fish survive in the deepest ocean because they eat food in deepest ocean and deep ocean. Fish in the deep ocean eat things in the less deep ocean. Eventually, sunlight is needed for algae to keep making food. Life needs a source of energy to keep it living. In a second-generation planet, who knows?!

My middle brother is a Canberra lawyer; I visited the War Memorial last time I was there. What upset me was the room dedicated to the highest military award, given for how many people they could kill. Seems to me the highest award should be given to peacemakers. Five Tooth cousins were kia in WW1.
