had a random childhood memory flashback of owning one of these bad boys: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skannerz something about being able to find different kinds of collectible monsters by scanning UPCs on random things

a black-and-silver plastic handheld electronic toy called a “Skannerz Commander” that uses an infrared sensor on the top to scan UPC barcodes on common products and items sold in stores. each barcode scanned would reveal a collectible monster or item in the handheld game. this version had a monochrome LCD display.
