This is a thoughtful piece by @ent3c.bsky.social, articulating a view of hereditarianism that I think is shared by many in anthropology, psychology & elsewhere. It's also one that I, as a geneticist working on human evolution, fundamentally disagree with. ericturkheimer.substack.com/p/the-cofnas...

Excited about a new paper (w @russellepstein.bsky.social): "Cognitive maps as a medium for thought", in @cp-trendscognsci.bsky.social! We discuss how maps are an important 'middle ground' rep. medium, and how they may interact with a 'language of thought'. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Defending Cofnas, who had written outrageously racist stuff for years (e.g., that in a meritocracy there would be next to no Black professors because they have lower IQs), is an odd hill to die on. Yet the 100-plus academics who signed this letter are clearly willing to die on it :/

1/6 New preprint! 🧵 How do we decide to decide? With @aleyamarzuki.bsky.social we showed that the interplay between urgency, evidence accumulation, and prediction errors converges in the dmPFC, into one signal: keep gathering information, or stop and commit to a choice. doi.org/10.64898/202...

🔥🔥New paper alert! Super excited to share our paper, out today in @nathumbehav.nature.com, led by the wonderful Dr. Nofar Mizrachi! nature.com/articles/s41... To me, this finding fundamentally changes how we should think about the relationship between cognition and immune regulation:

Mizrachi et al. show that directing attention to bodily sensations, rather than away, promotes more regulated acute inflammatory responses in healthy volunteers, revealing sensory and vagal pathways l...

📢 Our paper is now out in @natcomms.nature.com! www.nature.com/articles/s41... We know that symptoms of OCD fluctuate substantially. But what are the exact conditions that precede symptom escalations? We found evidence for metacognitive processes being a key antecedent. 1/

🚨 My new paper is out in CABN! 🚨@psychonomicsociety.bsky.social Do human 'habit' tasks measure the same thing? In this study, we compared the most commonly used paradigms, "Outcome Devaluation" & "Response Remapping", under matched training + time pressure 🧠⌛ link.springer.com/article/10.3...

"Here we show, in a large post-publication peer review database, that research assessment is driven more by differences between evaluators than by difference in the evaluated research. " arxiv.org/abs/2607.09783

Judges matter more than papers in post-publication research assessment
Research assessment relies on expert evaluations, yet human judgement is noisy, and it is unclear whether differences in assessment arise primarily from differences in genuine research quality or from...
